Hiii! I finally managed to put together a super complete step-by-step tutorial about how I make my notebooks so sell on my shop. Making stationery products for my shop was a big step for me, but outsourcing can be a big leap of faith. So I hope this tutorial helps you to learn the basic and also some tips and tricks I learned along the way, without having to break the bank and do a big investment!
I talk about all the material I use, the techniques and everything I learned so far! I also show you alternatives with materials that you also already have at home to do your notebooks, without having to invest in a lot of machines.
I've been making notebooks for 2 years now, so I already tried a lot of things (and had a lot of disappointments as well). Hope this video helps you and makes you not lose so much time in learning and in materials!
I hope you like this video! If you do, please subscribe, It really means the world to me! I'll be posting a new video every week!

Great video! Thanks for all the tips. 2 questions/tips/suggestions for you: 1) Would using a digital scale to measure out the paper work accurately enough instead of counting out a stack for each notebook? If the weight is consistent, it would be easy enough and quicker to measure out ___ amount for each type of notebook. And 2) they make staples and staplers that press completely flat- it would completely take out step and the need to press every staple flat. Swingline makes a stapler that does this - the model I have is #S7087842 and it uses S.F.3 staples. But this stapler has a regular depth. Not sure if one of these types comes in the extended arm like you have though or if you could pop out the current stapler and add in a different one (?). Love seeing your work and how you put it all together. 💕💕

19:06 - just in case nobody has mentioned yet (I scrolled but couldn't see it mentioned), the white plastic part on your stapler is a stopper that you can adjust so you can line up your paper to it's edge and staple in the same place over and over.

Such a good tutorial! I actually watched it while making my own notebooks hehe For the red mat thing (I don't know what it's called haha) on your guillotine, you can turn that around to a clean/new side and not have to use the cardboard. Underneath your machine, there are two small black screws, take those out and you'll be able to take the red thing out and turn it around - you can reuse it 8 times. I've done mine earlier today actually and it's just like new!

Hi, great video. I am a paper -lover and love making a variety of types and sizes of notepads, notebooks, journals, etc. You name it, I've probably made it! I have the same heavy duty paper-trimmer. Here's a a tip: you can get four times the usage from the red rubber cutting pad the blade cuts into. Once the cutting path is too wide, just take it out and rotate 180 degrees. Once that cutting path is too wide, just flip the cutting pad over, use, and rotate again when needed--helps your cutting pad last four times as long. Happy notebook making! 😃

Hey, I might be late for this and maybe someone else told you, but if you are still struggling with the big paper cutter, try to lengthen the lever arm. You could find a metal tube or build an extension for the lever, whatever works for you. Even an extension of 20-30cm will reduce the effort considerably. The longer the lever arm the more effortless it will be! Other than that, I loved the video, the notebooks, the process and the illustrations, you're really good at what you do :) I wish you all the best in you future ♥️

I make a lot of stickers for my self (most of them are copy-righted or specific to my need so I don't sale them) and I have a suggestion. It might be better to use paper larger than A0 (talking about some extra 2cm on each side) to have proper bleed region around every covers/objects so that the graphics extend to the edge of the cover and even a millimeter of screwup in cutting won't make the cover look weird. Given that you have one of those large paper cutters (what is that called 😅), one trick I do is manually trim 2 adjacent side to compensate for printing error and then align all the sheets on those 2 side and use a paper cutter to cut a stack at once. Also, my system for cutting complex shape is: I would put black trim marks and a red line between trim marks so that I am clear about which trim mark should I reference and where I need, and more importantly should not, cut.
@aPenasIllustrator
@aPenasIllustrator 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you meant A0, that’s a very big paper! I print boarderless so the graphics do extend to the edge of the cover 🥰

I believe the one that I use is only available in Europe! I tried to check the link and is working, maybe that's why! I bought it two years ago, so I only have the link, don't know exactly the brand. But send me a message on ig and I'll send you the link from Amazon Spain where I bought it 😊

How delightful you are! Thank you for the detailed tutorial. You make the process easy to understand and I may actually try this after considering for a very long time. Most especially, thank you for the details on the guillotine cutter! I have this exact machine but haven’t used it because the instructions were nonsensical. You made it easy to understand. The cutter has been in my studio for 4 months…untouched! I’m going to try it tomorrow. I’m binging your videos now. Thank you!

You can look on Etsy for pattern paper under what is called SVG or PNG files which will be digital download. ( search : pattern paper SVG) Look in the seller information on that item and check to see if they allow their image to be use for commercial use. It will also state if they allow unlimited use or an exact amount to use before u have to repurchase the license. Majority of the files are around 1-2 bucks (U.S.) and I’ve noticed the pattern paper is in a bundle and is usually around 5 bucks (U.S.) sometimes more or less. Just search and u will see a lot of beautiful pattern paper that u can print on card stock paper or paper that is a little thinner or the paper she was using in the video. There are many free sites that can convert the SVG/PNG to J-PEG format. These specific files are used for people who use die cutting machines. Like the you tuber said, don’t give up💕 I cannot draw at all. I am still starting my business . Good luck

OMG so my crafting interests range all over the place, and i just rewatched this video recently and laughed again at how you asked for something to press the staples down with, and your dad just gave you something you didn’t know about (like many dads do 😂). THEN the same day I happened to watch a jewelry making video that for the first time had a similar tool! I believe they said it’s a jeweler’s hammer. The one in the jewelry video I saw is a different style, but it seems to just be for aesthetic purposes. So now you can include this in your supplies in the description if you like… Love this video, super helpful and insightful. Thank you VERY much for showing us your process for your adorable stationery 🥹💕

I just finished watching your video. Beautiful notebooks! I noticed that when you were using the long stapler. There is a white sliding marker that you can use to set your paper length at. So in other words you're using that little white mark that you drew on the head of the stapler so that you can find the center of your score lines. If you slide the white plastic bar that is attached to the stapler it will be your marker to make it a little easier to keep the notebooks lined up. Hope this helps it makes your life a little easier.
@aPenasIllustrator
@aPenasIllustrator Жыл бұрын
I tried to use that but since they are handmade, sometimes the sizes differ slightly and sometimes the piece also moves a little. I feel more confident using the scoring and the little mark and the process is really fast :) Thank you so much for the tip!

✨Thanks Bia - Great tutorial!!!✨I made some notes and might get the courage to try making 1 notebook today 😁 I would also love to see a tutorial about your press in case I would like to make one in the future! Couple questions: (1) I thought you were laminating your notebook covers at one point, but maybe that was something else? (2) Do you do any lined or dotted inside pages or only blank?
@aPenasIllustrator
@aPenasIllustrator 3 жыл бұрын
Yaaay, hope you can do it, have fun Jessica! 😍 When they were laminated I did it in a printers house. I stopped doing that because I was ending up with a lot of stock and waste of materials. I tried to do it myself, but stopped because of three reasons: - it was super time consuming - I was using a normal laminator so there was a lot of imperfect covers, so I ended up putting a lot of good materials in the trash - the leftovers from the covers after cutting arent recyclable, because of the lamination! I used to print with lines and dots a while ago, only have blanks now. Hope to have them back in the future when I do more sales so I can have more stock of them 💛 They are a lot of work to do eheh
