I think I'm gonna cry. I've been using Indesign for 20 plus years, and did not know this, even if this is a recent feature, I just have always done the clunky method of tons of linked story boxes. What brought me here was googling, convert a 2 col text box INTO two separate boxes, can that be done? Reason I ask, is the 2 col text box, most of the time, I want to shorten 1, and force a line to the next col or page. Hitting a return is not good, because I may need to delete it later if the text changes.

however, this is not the "span columns" options that you will find in paragraph styles. does anyone know where to find that outside of paragraph styles??

When I have my document setup for 3 columns but want a header to span all columns it does not work. If I start my text frame as a single column then go in and split columns it will work. This to me reduces the usefulness as it usually involves more work to set up than to make a separate text frame. Am I missing a step here or is this the way it works? If so I hope in the next round of updates they will allow you to select text then say span columns. Do mainly newsletters and magazine layouts and I can see where this could be a benefit but only if the change I suggested is made.

Hi James, if you already have columns and want a header to span on all columns, just merge the columns that have your header.Let me know if I misunderstood what you meant. :)
