EXCELLENT! Look no further - this is the best recipe for PLUM Jam!
This dark purple preserve has a wonderfully fruity taste using chef's old fashioned recipe.
Cut up plums or use canned (really, I would only use fresh but canned should work)
Cook into a mush, about 15 minutes, cook the pits seperately in water then add the juice to the fruit pulp.
Or put it all in without cuttinf up and get the pits out when it turns to a mush.
Measure the liquid or know your pot so you can easily guess how much you have.
In the big pot put:
454 grams or 1 pound of crystal sugar for each 20 ounces or 2 1/2 cups liquid.
Bring to boil to setting point, 15 minutes. See video if not sure.
Some people as pectin or some such, but I don't need to.
Have your jars boiling for steralizing and put the Jam in the jars.

I’m a new sub. My neighbor gave us all plums from her backyard tree! And this recipe looks amazingly simple for me. Thank you! Love the video format, too. Short and sweet pun intended

After bottling the jam in jar's, dad used to bake them in the oven re-sterilize the jam and John before sealing. Don't remember the temperature it was probably 200 C It would keep the ages, like years and years

my plum tree has at least 500 very sweet deep purple/red to the core meat, with such a huge amount of plums i've geven many out to surrounding dwellings and plan to make wine and jam!! I planted the tree 1 decade ago and this is the first it has produced big edible amazing fruit! it's about 20ft high. very big plum tree! there are probably over 500, i have picked around 30lbs from off my 12ft A-frame ladder and i think i took about 1/5th of the tree. the local squirrels have been having a party, life is way too easy for them right now!! 😄

Hi Sprig, I enjoyed your video an I tried it with plums of my tree, it came out ok, but I wasn't sure when it had set, it seemed quite runny, so I boiled it for nearly 45 mins it was still a bit runny but I bottled it up. When it cooled it tasted lovely but had set really stiff, am trying it again but not gonna boil it so much, see how it goes lol.

You had glass jars and boiled them clean, I'm astonished thinking the boiling process would break the glass? Are they "pyrex type" heat resistant standard? Vid was very informative.

You can do it with any kind of glass, immerse the glass in room-temperature water and bring it to the boil, the glass won't break. It's not the heat that breaks the glass, it's the sudden change in temperature and the one side of the glass expands faster than the other side and it cracks.

Do you need to do the final boil of the filled jars in a pot of water? Are these shelf safe or do they have to be stored in a refrigerator? Great video.

Two of them sealed properly and the two that did not will be used by us and shared with our daughter. I started out cutting the seeds out of the plums which was taking too long. The plums were small so I ended up using a lemon/lime squeezer to smash them one at a time. This made it easy to extract the seeds. Tomorrow, we will have a chance to try our homemade plum preserves.

CinemaSasquatch I boil to steralize the jars, kill any germs, then you do not need to refrigerate them till they are opened, assuming the jar sealed properly, so use metal lids, not plastic.

Very vague recipe.... I have been looking for a recipe after too many videos.....more or less just shows making the jam with missing pecipe info....

That foamy stuff on the top should be spooned of before you bottle the jam

The foamy staff on the top, is actually the thickening agent. After I learned it in one of the videos and stopped removing it, my jams are always thick and I don’t need to cook my jams more than 30 minutes. Just keep mixing it back into your jam while cooking.

+Eddie Da Silva The skin tastes really good when it cooks, it adds body to the preserves, It doesn't cause gag reflex like apple peel might, that would be wasting money, I guess it would be like peeling grapes to make grape jam. If you do not like the peel, you can strain it before potting.

I don't mean to be rude, but Sprig is a strange name for a lady, as far as I know its meaning is a small stem bearing leaves or flowers, taken from a plant, but thanks anyway for your smashing tasty plum jam.

Why is it that you are reusing OLD lids when you are canning, you can't get a good sterile seal doing that. Also why is it that you are not using a hot bath canning method in order to kill any bacteria that possibly be present. I would check on this if I were in your shoes. Always better to be safe than sorry and catch food poisoning.

This sounds like an easy recipe for plum jam. I have a few containers in the fridge full of plums (4kg), unfortunately most have some insect damage. With any luck I can salvage what is left and make some plum jam. I will have to spray the plum tree as soon as I see the fruit to avoid losing so much fruit to the insects and our Neighborhood possum. The possum cleaned out ever plum off the top branches.
