Reminds me of my youth. As a kid I use to go with my parents to pick wild plums off the side of the backroads and we'd make jars and jars of plum preserves. It was so good!

This made me miss my grandma. She used to send my male cousins to pick blackberries....then she wouls make blackberry pies, and jam. Making memories, passing on recipes, skills, special rituals/routines is invaluable, intangible, and what is truly important.

Impressive as always, Kimmy!! A little hint .... once the lids have "popped" you can remove the rings so you can re-use them. The jars are already sealed, so the rings aren't necessary (and you don't have to go buy more!)

This looks so good. My husband and I picked some raspberries and blackberries over the summer and made some jelly it's so good. But we just do it on the stovetop we actually juiced the berries and cooked the juice and put sure-jell in it and then put it in the jars it gets hot enough to seal them. Thanks for sharing your method

Great video!!! I just moved into a new house with a plum tree and cant wait to use your recipe! I think it should be mentioned though, a household dishwasher is not capable of reaching 185 degrees which is used for sanitizing. I'm sure the way you do it is 99% effective but for canning and sanitizing it is always best to boil the jars as well.

When you are working with clean jars, then putting them through a dishwasher, you are going to be completely safe for a high sugar jelly that will then go through a water bath. You are not performing surgery, you are making jam!

Looks SO yummy! I love seeing jams and jellies in jars. 😍 A little tip to stop from getting the white film covering the jars and lids from hard water is to put a bit of white vinegar in the water in the canner. I PROMISE you never will taste it in your product. Just a tablespoon or so in a pressure canner and about 1/4 cup in a full water bath canner.

I love plum jam!! I guess you can throw a plum pit in while boiling to help thicken it up. Apparently it is really high in natural pectin. Obviously you'd want to remove it before jarring up your jam. I haven't tried this myself as I used store bought pectin last time. But next year's batch I will try it, as well as making it spiced plum jam. I thought at sounded amazing as well! Love the canning video kimmy!

Good video! I love plum jam. I also make plum / blueberry / apricot jam. And I also add Realemon Lemon juice to my plum jams since I like my jams to be a bit more tart. One note to add to your video...you should remove the rings on the jam jars before storing them. The rings can rust and can ruin your jam. Also, don''t stack your jars in storage.

I live in Norway, and a lot of us have too hot basements to store jam etc these days. So most of us just freeze all kinds of jam. That make it so much easier. But of course; it takes up space in the freezer. I have two boxes; a small one just for jam. Your jam looks good!

Thank you for this video! This was very informative. I have been desperately wanting to can for a LONG time. Im wanting to put up some large peppers from our garden and tomatoes this year. My ultimate goal is to eventually be able to put enough up from my garden to last us the whole winter. I also want to start entering into my state fair. I have that same canning pot. I use it to steam tamale. I just prop the basket off the bottom with a small metal bowl and cover the basket bottom with foil that has holes punched in it. It works great ant they are a great way to add variety to snack or lunch options. 😊

What's the purpose of putting them in the bath? Is it because of your specific lids and rings system? I reuse store jars and just seal them after putting the jam in. Has always worked a treat.

a tip for jelly making only make one batch at a time because you cant dble the pectin aka sure jel and always put your jars in the water bath canner to sanitize properly that is what my momma taught me many moons ago. tighten the rings of the jar finger tip tight once you have processed them and they are on you kitchen towels don't mess with them for 24hrs (if you use the pink box of sure jel you will use less sugar )

Jelly is made from the juice only of berries and fruits. It has no pulp. Jams are made with the whole berry or fruit and contain the pulp and peels of most fruits. The peels have natural pectin in them and help to make the jam " gel".
