This is the best tutorial on this subject that I've seen on KZfaq and I've watched a lot. I'm rebuilding my front porch railings and posts myself and have never attempted this type of a project. Seeing how you fastened the balusters to top & bottom strips first and then attached the assembly to the top & bottom rails was very helpful.

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection kzfaq.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

This beats the hell out of those old home improvement TV shows that make everything look way easier and faster than reality. I love your pacing and level of detail. Very nice.

There is literally NO other tutorial that explains the process of building a deck railing using nail strips in as much detail as you do. I have been researching for weeks and have watched countless videos on the subject matter and there is only 1 other video by This Old House that kindaaa explains the process but not like you!!! THANK YOU!!!! Every detail was exactly what I needed in order to obtain the knowledge I need to make the best possible railing for a client. Seriously, I can’t say thank you enough!!! Don’t ever stop making videos like this! You’re amazing! 😁 *definitely subscribing after watching that

I respect the heck out of you John for putting in the effort to use reclaimed decking on this project. Alot of people wouldn't do that, but I love it. Turned out great.

We built this railing on our new build farmhouse. It was inexpensive and exactly what we were looking for. It’s very sturdy but not too bulky looking. We purchased all of our wood, and fortunately, the painters will caulk and paint it all! You made it look easy and it really was. Love it! Thank you so much for sharing this video. Your home is beautiful by the way.

Awesome build !! Just what I was looking for. I’m rebuilding my Mums front porch railing in a few months and like with all new projects, research before I start. Thankyou for such a simple explanation and it was like I guessed tbh - it’s the detail in the prep work that makes or breaks any new piece. Time consuming? Yup. Worth it? Absolutely ! Your vids are just brilliant - thanks again 👍👍👍

Awesome reuse of old timber, great finish. In the past I have just pressure washed timber beams and been able to use them in renovation projects. The advantage of old timber is its far less likely to move or warp.

You made it look so easy!! I just completed my porch but instead of using 1/2" pieces to apply my spindles, I used 1/4" precut shims which made it difficult when attaching the spindles because the would would split in various places. Of course, I had add'l work to do as far as dealing those areas b4 applying paint. Thanks for sharing!
