How to Make Rechargeable 9V Li-Ion Battery | DIY 9V rechargeable battery
In this video, I will show you how to make a 9-volt rechargeable battery and use it anywhere, and save on battery costs. All you need is two 3.7V batteries, a voltage booster module, a charging module and a non-usable 9V battery body.
In this project, I will show you how to make the charging module very small so that it fits more comfortably inside the 9-volt battery.

Yes, he is a maniac. Because it is so out of economical sense of hat even Chinese do not do such stupid things. I use a multimeter with 9V battery often, once a day, and it last a year. That kind of battery is cheap, around 2 GBP. So max you can save using this device is around 1 GBP per year. Totally insane waste of time.

Be careful about point-to-point soldering of the SMD parts, those things may easily get an internal crack after any shock in the assembled device, so better just order a PCB (this one is easy enough to just etch with a sharp knife btw).

You can buy them, just google for it. I just found a set of two for 22,54 Euros, can't say anything about the quality. I guess the reason that they are not very common is that they are much more expensive than a "normal" 9 V rechargable battery, which has ab bit less capacity and needs a charger, but is still much cheaper.

Those DC booster circuits have quite high standby currents. It works but on devices with really low current draw the battery won't last that long because the booster circuits is active all the time. Tried to mod it on the resistors. Worked a little but still to high quiescent current. With firealarm devices you also have issues it won't give low battery warnings. It just dies immediately when the booster shuts off. But still nice try though. Easier to just buy one. More capacity and most likely better electronics.

With the things like smoke detectors, you're far better off just getting the intended "10 year lifespan" lithium batteries that use the same battery chemistry as lithium coin cells, with 3 stacked in series (edit: 3 lithium cells stacked in series inside the standard 9v battery form factor) to get the required voltage. They're individually expensive yes, at maybe $10 for each one, but given that they are intended to last 10 full years, they end up costing a lot less than alkaline 9v batteries do.

@44R0Ndin
@44R0Ndin 2 жыл бұрын
@@gt6hudson Agreed, but even those ones you can buy have the same problem. And they don't have the little slide switch in them so you can actually fully turn them off either. I guess if you want the switch, it would be a lot easier and probably cheaper to start with one of those and mod in a slide switch than to have to build the whole battery from scratch. Additionally there's another issue with the build in this video. Where does the charging circuit's IC get any heatsinking from? That's what that massive pad on the bottom of the IC is for. If it was me, I'd try to take that charging IC, bend the pins upward so I can "dead-bug style" re-make the charging circuit like was done in this video, but before I re-made the circuit I'd solder it to the inside of the (metal) case of the 9v. I'd also try to use a dab of solder to secure the micro-USB connector to the side of the case as well, unless that needs to be electrically isolated for some reason (but I doubt that). Shouldn't be too hard for either thing to be done, assuming you have the right tools and a sufficiently high wattage soldering iron. I mean the inside of the case looks to be bright shiny nickel plated, which means it SHOULD accept solder rather well, assuming there's no additional coatings or oils on it (so clean it first). Also, I tend to use lead based solder, but only because I still have a lot of it. When that runs out I'll switch over to the lead-free stuff, but that probably won't happen for a real long time, back when I was doing soldering more frequently 15 years ago I bought a half pound spool of 0.032" 63/37 Sn/Pb (eutetic as far as I know) solder from Radio Shack and I've kinda barely touched it, since most of what I was doing was picking components out of electronics that either became nonfunctional or were obsolete. Salvaged plenty of power transistors and good mylar capacitors from CRT TV's and monitors, and I was safe about it by waiting a week before opening it, and being careful around the tube. Never got shocked or broke the glass of a single CRT when disassembling them.

@DFX2KX
@DFX2KX 2 жыл бұрын
@@Carolina-mw4po switched power supplies make "noisy* power. it's fine for most things, but multimeters (at least the fancier ones) can be pretty sensitive to this. you can add a smoothing capacitor in there to help reduce the noise, not sure what size it'd be for a 9v, though.
@Carolina-mw4po
@Carolina-mw4po 2 жыл бұрын
@@DFX2KX i understand it as the conversion is done using a high frequency. I'm only saying I had no issues with my multimeter. May be it has a filter after the vcc, who knows. Even measuring frequency with it, the values are correct. I was lucky I guess.

I couldn't see any bms for battery, this boost module works until the input voltage decrease 1.5 volts so lithium ion battery probably will swell . bro you know low voltage of lithium ion is 3.0 volts😕. So ı wish you used tp4056 which have protection. Good job 👍.

I liked your video, but I've one suggestion to you: you put the 2 batteries in parallel, for gaining in current, but I'll would do the opposite, making it work in series. Because in series, they will get ≈7,1 8,4volts, much more close to 9volts. Knowing that the Stepup converter separate the energy in cycles and mixing they together after each cycle to meet your needing (9volts), a 7 volts potencial will be much more efficient to get at 9v than a normal 3.7volt, and off course, draining much less current.
@PenguinDIY
@PenguinDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you series the batteries, you can finally make it 8 volts, and with the voltage drop of the batteries, it will reach zero. It is not possible to charge an 8-volt battery with a 5-volt adapter.

Stop motion video so cool (and unexpected)! My eyes even with magnifier couldn't achieve that assembly. I have replaced failed TP4056 in one of my flashlights before, not so easy, so to move all the resistors, add links in etc, wow. But the TP4056 really should sit on something to draw the heat away, you took that away when you removed the PCB unfortunately.
