Very nice design. You may want to consider keeping the top air intake of the engine clean around the starter rope. So the engine doesn't overheat.

One constructive criticism. It defiantly needs a "deck." The grass coming up through the top will cook the motor eventually.

At first look engine looks like 4 stroke because has some oil fill plug and drain plug but surprisingly its 2stroke. Has it some internal gearbox? Why it starts with exhaust muffler but at the end of video muffler is removed? some exhaust muffler for 2 stroke is absolutely necessary because without muffler there is no back pressure and lot of fuel is thrown away from exhaust. This can double fuel consumption, can cause engine overheating and combination with clogged cooling grill around starter this will result in seized engine. I like this track mechanism , looks unstoppable.

If you care about your lathe, ground the welder on the piece being welded, NOT through the head stock. Welding sparks and spatter do bad things to the ways as well.
