Another big factor to calculate into your bend is what size pipe your bending over gives a certain size on your work. 1/2 round bar all the way to 2" plus bar they are all going to end up with a different end result shape.....I'm on the fast track tomorrow morning I need to finish building my home made bender using the hydraulic arms on a 8N ford rear end using the hand cranked pto Pump turning counter clockwise I have about 6 bars setup already that will be welded to flat stock or square stock to have some good contact surface to clamp down the round stock form . Great video

I have a 4' finger brake also and I make radius bends in a similar manner but instead of removing the fingers and drilling holes I simply welded (stitch, not continuous) a tab onto the tube. The tab is clamped down by the fingers so this technique would also work on a non finger brake. You do have to adjust the clamp back probably as far as your machine has adjustment for. You can also slide the material out and hit it again to bend past 90°. I have been able to almost roll a tube by making incremental "bumps" and keep working the material around like the roll in the top of an old stepside bed...but, you better have a brake rated several gage thicknesses larger than the material you're working with to pull it of on a full length piece.

That edge looks great. Maybe a little late to this party, but using a shim(the thickness of the part you are bending) under your fingers and on the outside edges of the piece you are bending will let you make curved edges.

O I wanted to ask you when I get my 2 post car lift what can I use to cover the cross over where the cables go from one side to the other due to dust and dirt piling up in tray over the years , I’ve noticed that in my c channels on side of shop has collected a very lot of dirt and dust due to working in shop everyday, what do you use to cover the cross over to keep this from happening , thank you big dog !
@RedlineStands2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Honestly, in 20 years of being in the lift industry I don't think I've ever seen anyone cover that tray, nor any problem occur as a result of not covering it. I don't suppose I'd bother if it were me. Thanks Wayne.

Why not just weld it further down so no adjusting is required?

Yours comes out so round at the top yet so sqaure at the bottom. This is a older video but i hope you see this and reply. I am new to this position. Typically dealing with galvanized sheet metal 20 gauge to 10 gauge. I am also bending my SQ to RD @ 168.75 degrees but i constantly find myself either over breaking the top or under breaking the bottom. Add more notches? Change the degree? Seems like i cant achieve both my 90° on bottom and my Diameter on top.
@RedlineStands3 ай бұрын
Right. I'm not using the rounded-over approach taught in this video to make the 90 degree bend at the bottom. I made that 90 degree bend using a normal break with no modifications.

To be honest, I don't think I'll be bringing Kyrsten back to my channel. We're still friends, but I quit filming her a while back because my 7 year old daughter was getting way too inquisitive for my liking. I was worried I was setting a bad example as a dad, and that she would get the wrong idea. Sorry man; I liked filming her. It was a lot of silly fun.
