ah don't know what ah did, but mine want fast as a truck and smelled like burning plastic. I took the copper wire off for safety and it was hot 'nough to burn my finger. 10/10, I will do it many times again.

Tried this and it worked.battery got a little warm..Also I made it reverse direction by placing screw and neodymium on positive side..

It's based on the principle of a working DC motor. If you place a current-carrying wire (the copper wire) inside a magnetic field, it will move or produce a force in a direction perpendicular to both the magnetic field and the current. Since in this case, the circuit is complete once connected to the magnet, so the wire starts conducting current and also happens to be in the m.f produced by the magnet. the direction of current in the wire practically cuts through the magnetic field lines perpendicularly, and the wire is thrust in a direction perpendicular to the field.

Perpendicular to both of them. It's called Flemming's Left Hand Rule, you can google an image to properly visualize the relationship between the directions.
