Here I show how to make many small boxes faster and easier with a router. Whether you want to build small boxes or drawers, as soon as you want to produce a larger quantity of the same kind, this method is unbeatable.

I like your method of using the router. I tried a shooting board, cut-off saw, even a miter box, but this is the way to get it done. Trying to make a few myself, this will definitely help out.

Great technique. I do something similar, but I make four passes for each box, with no need for a stop block, by setting the fence distance from the center of the cutter to be equal to the height of the box, then make a pass along each edge. Cut out the corners with a knife as you demonstrate here, then apply glue, fold up the sides, and apply the elastic band for clamping. Cheers!

Clever. Having watched this, I think I will copy except after cutting strips and before router detail, add a dado for insetting a bottom. Box will then be stronger for holding heavy objects. Thanks for the upload!

Raffiniert gemacht, klasse! Diese Methode merk ich mir. Tipp vom Schreiner: Wenn Du zu Anfang an der unteren Innenseite eine Nut mit der Kreissäge sägst, könntest Du während des Verleimens den Schachtelboden mit Dicke der Nut einlegen. Vergleichbar mit einer eingenuteten Rückwand bei Schränken. Das spart das extra leimen des Bodens und auch die spätere Schleifarbeit.

Very good video, thank you! I learnt a new method that will become useful in time. And, may go some way to explaining how it came to pass that Django lost his fingers too! Originally a woodworker, though following a box-making accident involving his tablesaw, Django then chose to pursue his second passion, the guitar.

I like the efficiency there. I make lots of small boxes for sale so every little bit of time saved is another box produced. I used to cut each angle with the table saw, but if the angle is off just a tiny bit they don't fit quite right. Far too much waste that way. I'll give this a shot and see how they turn out. I've been using dado slots, but your method might change everything. We'll see.

Sehr gute Möglichkeit. So macht man das auch im Profibereich mit "Alucobond"-Platten. Die Fräst man bis zur zweiten Aluschicht an und kann sie dann leicht auf einen 90° Winkel knicken ohne das man eine Kante sieht, oder die Stabilität verliert. Aber bei dem dünnen Holz geht das auch recht fix!

Eine wirklich gute Idee. Habe ich so auch noch nicht gesehen. Das geht wirklich schneller. Allerdings habe ich mir abgewöhnt kleine Kästchen für den üblichen Kleinkram auf Gehrung zu sägen. Ich klebe die Seitenwände und Boden einfach gerade zusammen, 2 Klemmen ran, fertig. Das ist stabil genug. Aber für etwas schickere Sachen werde ich das zukünftig wohl auch mit der Fräse machen. Daumen hoch.

Bei dickeren Brettern ist aber evtl. die Schneide des Fräsers zu kurz.

Stimmt das ist eher für kleinere Objekte geeignet. Es gibt er aber auch diesen Fräser amzn.to/2pOTDko wie weit der allerdings für Holz geeignet ist, weiß ich nicht.

Nice. I would have routed a groove in each strip near the bottom and make the bottom rest in that groove. Helps squaring up the box as the bottom has to be put at the same time with the box glue-up. Also a lot stronger but makes the box less deep. (yet for this, the sides can be taller with at least the thickness of the current bottom)

alles gut bis zu dem Moment wo der Leim ins Spiel kommt. Das ist ein geschmiere - kaufe eine ordentliche Leimflasche oder benutze gleich einen Pinsel. Überschüssigen Leim entfernt man mit einem nassen und lauwarmen Lappen. So hat man überall die Leimspuren nach dem Trocknen - ist unschön. Auch den Boden könnte man in eine umlaufende Nut einlassen -der bräuchte dann gar kein Leim.

Couldn't you make a long square tube and cut off slices at the desired depth of the box using the bandsaw or table saw..

Less work, but it will take longer. First you have to wait for the tube to dry, then you cut it and put on top and bottom. In a different comment here I suggested to build two boxes in one, this way you can glue up everything at once while reducing the number of parts.

The problem with cutting a square tube on band or table saw is tearout. Sure you can easily push the tube through easily with a sacrificial backing board behind it to prevent the outer edge from blowing out. However, you need to make a piece exactly square to fit the inside to stop all of the tearout of the inner wall. Had to do this recently when splitting a long skinny box. Bottom line, not worth it for high volume, was a pain for a one-off. I really like Stephan's technique using the router.

Just a thought, you could speed up the process by cutting the ends of your mdf sheet to 45 degrees before cutting into strips. Then the ends of the strips would already have the angle cut.

Another option to speed it up, build your boxes twice the height, glue on a top and a bottom and later slice it in two. Besides less parts to handle, with a top and a bottom you can use an ordinary clamp to ensure a good bond.

Benjamin not really, you no longer can glue on the bottoms from the outside before cutting.
