Today, I want to show you how to make a simple castile soap. To me, Castile only uses olive oil and lye. I add no other oils to this recipe.
Ingredients needed (by weight):
-17.2 oz. Water
-8.5 oz. lye (sodium hydroxide)
-62.2 oz. olive oil
Tools needed:
-bowl big enough to hold about 3 liters of liquid
-spatula
-whisk or a stick blender
-containers for a mold to pour into
Have fun!

I just wanted to let you know how my first batch of soap has turned out. I based it on your recipe but tweaked it using SoapCalc and made a 80% olive, 20% coconut oil soap (so a Bastille rather than Castile?). It's still firming up but I did the zap test on a firmer end slice and then used it. It's great! Thank you again for your videos and sharing your recipe. :D

It makes no sense to me that people would give you attitude about not giving up your secrets. Those are yours. I come up with my own by going on soapcalc. I love your channel in the advice you give and I always learn so much. Thank you for doing this. The thing is you don't even have to do this. Your recipes belong to you. People should come up with their own because that's what makes their soup special. Every soap business has their own unique think about it.

I love your straight-shooter delivery ("If you've got an attitude....you get nothin'..."! As a fellow soaper and artisan, I totally get where you're coming from. I enjoy watching other people's techniques, though, which can save me time, and what led me to your channel. Loved the one on shaving soap. And here I was stirring like crazy in the crock pot, but your common sense comment about the heat of the stearic acid helping the batter "cook" without the heat: brilliant. Keep the videos coming!

I can’t understand the thumbs down. This video like all your other videos is straight and to the point. Great information is provided. But I guess haters are going to hate. I personally have learned from your videos, in fact like you I don’t go all hazmat suit to make my soaps. I only wear gloves when I package them...don’t have to but I do. Again love your videos and hope to see more of them. Thank you again

Thank you for being so generous and down to earth. this does seem simple enough for me to do. I’m a new soaper but you gave me confidence, that following safety procedures and having everything ready before I start and a recipe, it should be easy, thank you very much. Most of us understand you need to keep your recipe yours. To me it’s like :Monday you went to work, and did the work, then (I feel )you should get the paycheck. Not just somebody that sat at home and watched you work . You did the work, the benefits should be yours as well. I hope that explains how I feel to the trouble makers, wanting everything they see or hear about for free.🤗😁

Thanks Uncle John for doing this video, tho it's a simple recipe, I valued the information on volume of the liquid and how much fits in the mould. So now it's easier to calculate volumes to fill other moulds. Also I can prorate the proportions of the ingredients to increase or decrease volume accordingly. Thanks again.

Good luck! I'm steps behind you! Can't wait! John, thanks for the simple recipe! I'm venturing into soap making and got overwhelmed with all thats out there! But like you said, you can make it as simple or complicated as you want. I want to make it a side business maybe more in the near future! I just don't see how some people make the money when they are adding all sorts of essential oils ( Which can be expensive) Don't get me wrong I want to add essential oils as well to some recipes. However, I want to keep to 1 or 2 in order to keep the cost down. I figured out my packaging already. And also very simple but nice. My business Logo is done. Ready to print whenever I'm ready. My last step is the soap making! Yay! Thanks again for your videos! A guy can always DREAM! Stay safe and healthy.

Anyway, I made my first O.O. soap but it isn't technically Castile as I did 98% O.O. and 2% castor. Anyway, I am always interested in what other folks are doing out there and just wanted to stop by and say, I am a huge fan of your wonderful work. When i came across your videos and watched them i was so happy. You thought me a simple trick of how to soap without a thermometer. Not really advisable for newbies but i tried it and it worked like magic, since then i have made atleast 5 different batches all small though but im more than happy they turned to soap at all. I also learned how to keep it simple and not worry about extra virgin olive oil or pomace and all that, also the trips n tricks of zap test within the first 24hrs and so on. You made soaping for me so simple. My first batch is just about cured and i have afew to give away to family and friends and colleagues at my work place too. Im tryin to learn hot process soap making before i begin that too. Thanks jon, gratitude from nigeria.👍👍👍
