This is amazing and looks fun to do. The big batches are a little intimidating to me because I don’t really need tons of soap, I just make it once in a while for fun so this looks perfect! And I have my own honey from hives I have at my house! I will try this! Thanks!!

Elly, I started soaping because of one of your videos, years ago, lol! When the pandemic hit, I stopped (I was selling it too) and haven't made soap in 2 years. I have been wanting to sell my equipment, but I have been watching your videos like this one and the liquid castille soap, and darn if I don't want to start making some small batches of soap! LOL! Thank you so much, I love your channel and have for years. You are a wonderful and fun teacher. Thanks for sticking around! I think I'll start again, if only for self and family use.😉👍💖

Just finished making 2 batches of Feijoa Chutney - 1 Ginger, 1 Lemon - its exactly 3 a.m. and although I should be flat out between the sheets, instead, I finished watching this video… whilst my puppy claimed the bed. Smart Boy! Re: the Silicone Rash - I don’t want to jinx things but thankfully I’ve never experienced it. However I do want to say that I quite liked the effect 😊 And it must have the added bonus of making the soap easier to hold 😊😊

Who woulda thought you could make soap in a shaker this way. brilliant. The soap looks cool, rice bubbles hehe. The honey will provide a beautiful lather I have tried pure olive oil with 3% sugar. Thanks George, yeah I calcualated the honey and it was only 1.7% of oils. Could probably use more. If I was using a stick blender I would have just blended it into the oils I think. It's a fun method, I've been using it for my test batches for ages!

Hi Elly! I really enjoyed your sharing today and the idea of experimenting. I made my first batch of soap this week on my little farm, after watching all of your sharing. It was exciting and fun. I am not sure how to gauge if it was successful, but it’s beautiful. It emulsified quickly which was tricky but otherwise it went well. I am not sure how to share or to show you, but I thought it fun to tell. I am a community herbalist and teacher, so my olive oil was infused with calendula. It was an oat and honey beginner soap. Warm regards from Norway! x

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Thanks Elly! I’ll review that ph video and check that out. After 48 hours, I did the soap test you do for lather etc and it felt great. But I have some wonders. It’s my first ever batch, so I need to keep learning. I am hoping to find out how to use locally produced oils, as all of the special oils are so expensive here. Thank you for your sharing. I’ll send you a photo via email soon. Just for fun for you to see.

I made a Castile soap with my own homemade juniper vinegar in the lye solution in place of the water and it turned color like that, but more of a bright orange color. I have added honey to a couple of batches, but not in the lye solution. I put mine in just after trace along with some herbs. The soap was really nice in that it felt like it put a nice protective layer on your skin, not heavy or anything, but lite and refreshing.

Hello. I absolutely love the tutorial. Simple and easy. I didn't hear you discuss temperature? Did the lye need to be a certain temperature?

I didn't bother taking the temperature for this soap. I think it was cooled a little.

I don't think it's needed for melt and pour, don't you just melt it and pour it? No mixing required?

Another brilliant tutorial, thank you so much Elly. I have learnt so much from you. Sorry to go off topic but do you make syndet bars? I've been wanting to make a syndet shampoo bar & be able to pour into a mould so I can do swirls. I've tried several formulae, from reliable sources, but they were just too soft.

Hi Elly, I’ve just come from your beginners soap making video, in that video you said it takes up to four weeks for the soap to cure, is it okay and safe to use before then? I’ve just made my first soap loaf and I couldn’t of done it without your helpful videos so thankyou 💕
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, no it's best to allow all soap to cure for 4-6 weeks minimum. It' really important to ensure the soap is as mild as possible and nice and dry/hard. It won't be much good before then.

Great idea! I tried bringing a batch to trace by stirring just to see now long it would actually take. It wasn’t horrible. It took a total of an hour and I didn’t stir every minute. The shaker is an even better alternative. Could probably even be done in a jar without the pour spout?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tracy, yes shaking is definitely faster than stirring. You could use a jar, but glass is a no-no for soap (it's etched by the lye).

@EllysEverydaySoapMaking

That's how I normally add honey if I'm using a stick blender, but I'm not sure it would mix through well enough with just shaking. You could try it though! :)

Hi Elly, I love your videos. Not sute if you already know, but I’ve heard that if you line your mold you don’t get that texture. Haven’t tried it yet myself.
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elise, yes you wouldn't get the silicone rash if you used a log mould with liner, but the point of using silicone moulds is that you don't have to line them, and they would be very hard to line :)
@marionlacey1986

This was good fun to watch Elly. I guess if you had't hurried the firming up process by putting in the oven it would have eventually hardened without the 'silicone rash'?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Marion, glad you liked it! Yes, it would have hardened by itself but in that mould it wouldn't have gelled, and I like my soap to go through a full gel phase. The only trick I know to avoid silicone rash is to wait for the soap to firm up a bit before it goes into the oven, but it was taking forever to set up so I pushed ahead, hence the rash/bubbles. I'm keen to try again another day when I have more time because I love gelled soap and love my silicone moulds! I got silicone rash in my nice flower moulds once. Wasn't pretty :(
@marionlacey1986
@marionlacey1986 3 жыл бұрын
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Thanks for that explanation. I am all for gelling my soap too and honestly the silicone rash wouldn't worry me a bit. I have the flower moulds too and next time I am in Kmart will look out for the rectangular ones for small batches like yours. They weren't available when I was last in there but that was a while ago. I find the big rectangular wooden box ones online with silicone inserts are a bit costly for me right now with our current joint medical expenses. 🐾
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to make this soap I would just make a larger batch in any old container (a rectangular tupperware or something?), line the mould with paper and gel the soap as you normally would for a log mould batch. I am going to make another batch of this, larger, with my stick blender and do it that way. I like my silicone moulds but log/block mould batches are great too (much easier to gel!).

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking I would it be less likely to develop silicone rash if it was wrapped up and put in an esky/insulated box instead of CPOPing?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Probably, but it may not have enough heat to fully gel without the added warmth of the oven. If the oils were warmed that may work.. Depends on the ambient temperature/climate too! Is cold here now.
