I just bung butter, garlic, salt and pepper and whatever veg into the saucepan on a very low heat and let them steam. The juice they release is gravy for the rest of the meal (if there's a lot of watery juice I reduce it first).

Ive always steamed my veggies but im going to try the 1st method (blanching) tonight. Thanks
