Quick one, there's a little gem hidden away in the right click menus in Autodesk Inventor called demote, this let's you group a bunch of parts you've already placed and puts them into a new sub-assembly. #Autodesk #Inventor #Tutorial #3DCAD #Design #Engineering #CAD

Your videos are like a British oasis in a hostile desert of American drawl on how to use inventor whilst stuck in imperial! On a more serious note, videos on how to choose design strategy would be welcome. Particularly if they touched on woodwork.

I would venture to say that the people whose attention you're losing are those who are just browsing aimlessly to pass time, a little bit like getting drunk or high. Your long winded videos are my favorite because through your banter and waffling there's actually a lot of great auxiliary information that helps paint a picture of the inner workings and history of Inventor and the industry that would be hard to seek out and learn in any other way. Us self-taught or freelancing professionals really appreciate it. It's the closest experience to shooting the shit around the coffee maker that we can get! Keep up the good work, and let the people just needing to pass the time watch videos of raccoons riding on top of dogs (highly recommended).

Love your tutorials! You make it fun and exciting to learn! I always get a kick out of it when you say “I’m going to make this a short one” and it turns into a 30min video.

I typically watch your videos from start to finish regardless of length. The only time I will end it short is if you happen to answer what my initial question was to begin with so I can get back to my job. (Yes, I watch you videos at work). Your content is fantastic, well delivered, and the commentary has a sense of humor to it. Keep it up! :)

I'll be using these videos in my High School classes. A little bit of character goes a long way to holding their attention.

Great video, thanks so much. I came here looking for a way to add a component to a demoted sub assembly - you always have just what I need. Cheers!

I love 20minutes wizzard movies. Since you go more in depth and explain more possibilitys. I always play youtube video's at double speed anyways Thank you very mutch for spreading knowledge with the world. Keep it up.

Thanks, I was looking for that feature a long time and now I finally found it: "demote"! In Solidworks it's simply called "create sub-assembly".

It is such a shame that the most completely viewed videos are sub 5 minutes, maybe people are after a quick answer to a particular question? I hope you will keep making some longer videos too. I'm always entertained by your banter, would love to hear any relevant stories from your career too! Cheers and thanks for the videos.

warrantyvoid100 Thanks man, it's difficult with tutorials because they're kind of training... and this is a complicated line of work which can't really be taught by dumbing it down and quickening it up! Doing that will only degrade the quality and quantity of relevant info. Classic example here though is my 3D Sketching video, it's around 20+ minutes long and as far as I remember it's a start to end training session, but average watch time is like 6 minutes! I'd get that if it was crap, people got bored and then disliked the video, but the like ratio is huge on it! So it's baffling, as is the internet.

Nice video, so if a project has been drawn as a single assembly but I wanted specific sub-assemblies on a particular sheet then I can demote and make as many subs and then go to sheets

Very nice video, and always funny, toppie! It's almost the answer i'm looking for... How do you demote an tube from design generator with on both side's an plate? You have a skeleton part file......you place it in a assembly.....then with "insert frame" you place some tube's......then you place some plate's on both sides of the tube....! And now the question: How do you make a sub-assembly of those 3 parts in this top-assembly and save it correctly? My thanks for your trouble...

I think you can waffle a bit sometimes, like the rest of us human beings, however you keep it interesting with your humour. I don't think you should try to make shorter videos if it means making them less indepth. I think the more information the better. There's plenty of basic tutorial videos out there, so I'd prefer to hang around if your gonna go more in depth.

Going from SW to INVENTOR after 15 years really makes me miss how much more intuitive SW is. I could write a book on what INVENTOR would need to bring it up to its "nearest competitor. Little things mainly, like why can't unconstrained parts have a small asterisk or the like next to their name in the assembly tree??? So simple instead of all this unnecessary animation BS.
