Hello friends!
Welcome to my channel where I share my recipe creations with you all. This “bacon” recipe here is a new one for me. I’m still working on perfecting the flavor, but the consistency and texture are perfect and I wanted to share how I made it. I did make some modifications to the recipe after creating the video and those are listed below. I hope you enjoy this recipe! Feel free to play around with the ingredients as you see fit.
Please tag me at @yessies_plantbaseddiet_ if you make it and want to share your results. I’d love to see how it turned out for you!
I used the starchy water from washing a 5 pound bag of flour. I only used the starchy water from the first wash. Check out my “Vegan Drumstick” Video to see how I washed flour to make seitan.
Ingredients:
4 Cups of Starchy Water ( 2 cups for each color)
Red Batter
1 TBSP liquid smoke
1 TBSP Umami mushroom flavoring
1 TBSP Beet root powder
1/2 TBSP vegan Worcestershire sauce
1/2 TBSP red cooking wine **modification**
1 TBSP Maple syrup
1 TSP Agar agar
Consommé powder ( I used the Osem brand )
1/2 TBSP olive oil or roasted sesame seed oil for more smokiness
1/2 TSP salt. ** modifications**
White Batter
1/2 TBSP Consommé powder (chicken bouillon)
1 TSP Agar agar
1/2 TBSP Liquid Smoke. **modification**
1/2 TSP olive oil
1/2 TSP salt ***modification**
About 3-4 TBSP of Vegetable shortening or vegetable oil of your choice to fry the bacon in.

I have been a vegetarian since I was 20 years old in college. I'm now 71 years old still have a 32" waist, my hair is medium brown and I don't dye my hair. Even though I'm 71 years old, people think I'm in my mid 30's. When I first became a vegetarian, one would be lucky if they could find 3 books at the library or book store, vegetarianism was unheard of. I'm so happy for the internet and the amount of people that are vegans and vegetarian or plant base. Liam::

@@yessicainfante831 hello! So, I froze them and thawed them and they survived freezing! Mine are a little thicker as I'm still learning technique, but I like them as they are a bit "meatier" in texture (which my elderly mom likes, as she is a meat eater) and gives a nice chew. I also cooked them straight from frozen, but they kinda crumbled a bit, so I recommend thawing first before cooking, unless you want bacon bits. As a side note: do not microwave these as they WILL burn! I tried to thaw them in the microwave and they started smoking like crazy and they flamed a bit! Lol My guess is it's due to them being starch-based with no protein or fat to act as a buffer. So, no to microwaves, but freezing them is fine. 😊 Hope this helps!

I have one request. I watch on my tv or phone so I can't go look at the recipe in the description. Can you go over as you add stuff.

Does it taste like Bacon? Here in Aus we have a plant based bacon seasoning called Deliciou.

I wonder if you add finely smashed tofu and dehydrated it it would be more meaty

I did a similar technique to the video once and blended in some chickpeas. It worked and seems a similar logic to the tofu.

It’s possible. I do have a recipe where I include tofu for seitan. I will most likely be sharing on my channel soon.

These kinda seem like they'd be more like chow mein noodles - fried noodles of starch - then the more protein-y/fatty makeup of bacon

Really awesome recipe! Could these strips be used to wrap around vegan minced meat? I am searching for ways to make vegan slavinken for example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavink
