How to Make Terra Cotta Pots Look Old - Instantly Aged Terracotta Planter Pots using Paint!

Looking to get that rustic, aged, old terra cotta pot look, but don't want to wait weeks, months, or years? Well, you're in the right place, friends! Today I'm sharing how to age terracotta pots at home within a matter of minutes! I'll be using whitewashing techniques and a couple easy, inexpensive DIY tricks to quickly transform these clay terra-cotta planter pots into time-worn beauties. Skip the salt and yogurt and other things you've read online, because I think this is the easiest way to make terra cotta pots look old, fast!
I just love the vintage, English charm of weathered and aged pottery Algae and all! So I had so much fun with this simple DIY project and I'm so excited to add these new-old terra-cotta pots to my home - indoors and out! Happy DIY'ing! I hope you enjoy!

Same here. I saw a gal use expanding foam (like from the hardware store) to make dirt then paint it brown...of course, this would be if you use faux plants.

And if it does dry, and you have extra blotchy spots you don't want, you can use some sandpaper to buff some out.

Wow! These look great. So great that I wish there was a better way to seal them. I know you use the spray-on matte rustoleum enamel stuff. I have used that before for outdoor containers. But it eventually wears away and exposes the pots and myself as fake! Seriously, how could one weatherproof these beauties, and hopefully still with a matte finish!?

Rather than using paint, which washes off, tile grout that's been thinned down with water so you can bush it on, is a better option, as it's made of cement so dries much harder. This means you don't then need to use a sealer.

For the health of our oceans please use a synthetic sponge and not natural sponges. It's damaging to our already fragile oceans. Thank you for the instructional process on aging the pots, this is the video I was looking for to age newly purchased terra cotta.

BaHaHa! Sponges are cultivated and grow in abundance in Tarpon Springs, FL, which supplies 70% of the natural sponges that are used. Research is your friend.

I wondered the same. I had a pot looked aged in only a couple months from minerals in the soil. I was hoping to find a way of soaking it in something and maybe absorbing it

Your sound quality is bad. Also, you're making the process much more difficult than it needs to be. Chalk paint and a sanding sponge will achieve the same result in half the time.

Her sound is fine to me so maybe your device is bad. The process is less than 10 minutes with stuff you most likely already have in your house. I for one don’t have chalk paint lying around. Nor a sanding sponge. Make a video showing your method then instead of putting down someone’s effort in showing a way things can be done. So weird and entitled.
