I finished my 1/6 scale FV107 Scimitar this spring, and finally, the how to-video is done. Hopefully, this can inspire some people out there and show that you don't need a big money bag to get a 1/6 scale tank to drive with.
About the model:
FV107 Scimitar
Lengt: 800 mm
Weight: 19 kg
Materials: hull made from plywood with 3D-printed turret and details. Tracks, drive wheels, road wheels, road wheel arms and tensioner wheel are all made from PLA+ and printed om ny trusty (4500 hours and counting) FlashForge Finder.
Suspension: Homemade springs from 2 mm piano wire.
Motors: Two 12 V electric screwdrivers (550 motors) with planetary gearbox left untouched. Set to drill-mode. 15 Nm of torque.
ESC: Two Hobbywing 80A Quickrun speed controllers.
Sound: Sense Dual Plus sound module.

Wonderful job. So nice to see something other than the usual WW2 offerings, and so well done, too. Playing back the ‘running’ portion of the video at .5 speed really helps to convince the viewer that the vehicle is actually real.

I have been watching your builds in series and it's fascinating to see how you are evolving and refining the designs of things like drive, suspension and idle mechanisms from vehicle to vehicle. A great series of videos with interesting modelling subjects - it's good to see something other than the usual German cats (says the man with 1/8th and 1/6th Panthers!) . Thanks for sharing.

@rb67mustang

Well, the plans are mostly a detailed drawing of the tank enlarged to the scale he decides to build, the rest is hard scratch building with a mix of 3D Printed parts. Yes, it would be great to be able to purchase the 3DP files if you were going to build the same scale tank. But scratch building is an art in it self if one has never done this type of work.

Hey there, first of all I just wanted ant to say that what you’re doing is absolutely amazing and I’m enjoying every second of your videos! I just couldn’t help but notice some artefacts on the print at 9:57 which I’m guessing were caused by Low wall count and infill to save some print time. You might already know this but since your friend printed them I’ll say it anyways if it can help, you can print the walls before the infill (usually a check mark in the slicer) and they should disappear saving you some sanding time! (On the other hand, overhangs might look a bit worse):)

such a nice slick model, big fan of the CVRT series, but then i have worked with them from time to time, some great detail, some slightly incorrect, but i'm being picky, you can be forgiven as i know the effect you are after, the engine and gearbox covers are louvre in style, something i always look for, i remember some years back a chap who created the artwork for the Revelle model taking photos of our Scorpion and noting he had done the louvre the wrong way round, but it always takes those who know every inch of a vehicle to notice - when like me, you have spent hours sanding and restoring vehicles you tend to notice a lot more - Leopards tend to be a favourite of mine, and my latest is the later variant of the Kodiak AEV3, do i set you the challenge haha

That's so cool, man, I love hearing from people who have worked with them! Very nice as usual. The attention to detail is uncanny in this one... By the way, how do you calculate the gear teeth to track fittings? Is it from the blueprint or do you calculate it urself?

Hey man, and thank you! Well, the blueprints I find on the net gives me a good idea of the sprocket design. I then adapt the tracks to the teeth of the sprockets and imitate the look of the tracks. Might do a video of it in the future. ☺

Thank you! I find the measurement and blueprints on the internet and scale them to the right size. If something is extra tricky, I buy a 1/35 model as reference.

So cool on so many levels... brilliant actually 👏 I build large scale RC offshore powerboats and I 3d print the hulls to make the plugs to cast the fiberglass hulls. I've always been interested in WW2 tanks but steered away because of the tracks...but after watching ALL your vids you've inspired me! How have the tracks printed with PLA plus been holding up?

Hi! Funny - I started building large scale wooden RC boats a long time ago too. 😊 The tracks has held up fine, it I'm always making them a little thicker and simpler than real true to scale, to be sure. Thanks for watching! 🙏

One last question my friend... What %infill are you using on the tracks? I would think you would want them as solid as posdible... I think the bug has bit me...

@@michaelanthony1537 Hi! Maybe I answered you somewhere else? But the tracks are always at least 95 % infill with at least 3 walls.

Hi and thank you for the kind words! It's so cool when people that has worked with them get in touch. It's harder to hear from some one with hands on experience of ww2-stuff. 😊 Right now, I'm not selling any files... I think I need to adjust them a bit if someone is going to pay for them.
