We only use Dawn in our house as it is, and the other two ingredient's have been around forever so, I made a gallon of this as soon as I saw the video. It does exactly what it should do.....CLEAN'S CLOTHE'S :) Simple, quick, and inexpensive, love it!!!!

This recipe is fantastic. My clothes, blankets and towels are soo soft after drying. I am not going back to commercial brands of washing detergent again. Thanks a bunch. :)

I have used ivory dish soap for hand washables and would soak them over night and it did the trick Ive also used it for pre treating. I spend a lot of $ on products for my clothing but the more I read about people making their own detergent the more I want to try this out myself. Why not! Thanks Jon!

im gonna use this recipe because sitting there grating a bar of soap is too time consuming and those soaps that a lot of people use im not sure of using because i have sensitive skin. i enjoy dawn, ajax, and joy dish soap there very great for cleaning and their gentle on my skin. i love this after i run out of my commercial detergent im going to give this a try.

Francena Wallace I went to a second hand store and found a food processor for like 10 bucks and only use it to grate up my soap. Try that. I make my 5 gallon bucket of laundry detergent and then add one of the small bottles of dawn in at the end. This recipe is amazing.

the washing soda and borax dissolve better with just the water, then add the detergent after everything else.

Can the borax be left out and citric acid be used instead?
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 9 жыл бұрын
FEW commercial detergents contain CITRIC ACID. Citric acid helps take all those hardwater deposits and keeps them suspended in the wash water so they don’t settle on anything. Citric acid is more often found in rinse aids and dishwasher cleaners. If you are getting sediment on your plastics, this is where you can turn first. It will work better in the rinse compartment than vinegar, but I have no idea how strong to mix it. Conclusion: Hurray! CITRIC ACID reacts with WASHING SODA. As you add more acid to the mix, and decrease the possibility of deposits, you are neutralizing the washing soda. This is why it’s more often seen in rinse aids, dishwasher cleaners, and other situations where washing soda is used. To use it with washing soda, you have to overwhelm the citric acid with washing soda to make sure there’s enough left to do it’s high pH cleaning thing. In the detergents I’ve seen, it’s at least 4 parts washing soda to 1 part citric acid. Conclusion: Use 1 cup of washing soda for each 1/4 cup citric acid. If I still get sediment, I use more detergent, not raise the citric acid concentration in the detergent.

This seems great! I'm going try this. I've been finding deals at the store on detergent then I look at the regular prices. They seem so high now. I like this seems more natural and cheaper. Is it ok to use essential oils instead of dawn? Which Dawn is great. :)
@Jonehughes

Hi Amber I would use Dawn, that IS the main ingredient, if you want to add essential oils, that is OK, but very expensive....

Hi Brother John, Jesus is Lord !!! AMEN !!! The only way the Kahlua bottle will give you any pause, is if you get your teaching from men instead of the Bible, God has gifted many men to teach from the Word of God, but the bottom line is........open the Word yourself,
