In this video i show how to make the best string for any yo-yo. you can customize it and make it exactly how you want it to be. This is very simple you will just need a drill and thread.

Thank you so much for this! I just totally made my own string and it works and looks awesome. For those of you giving this a go: The starting string length you want is about 3 times your final length. Through the process the string will shorten as it tightens and also you end up doubling over the string - good things to know before you begin.

I thought I was the only one who did this! I used to make mine out of mercerized cotton thread back in the day (before polyester strings). It's slicker, frays less, and lasts longer than regular cotton thread and it's probably still a great choice for fixed (wood) axle yo-yos. 😎👍

I got a couple C3yoyodesign "Initiators" (2A/looping yoyos) and boy is the starburst fraying the string right away. Hoping the sharp star dulls down a little. Thinking about silk thread since it's known to be abrasion, tear, and fray resistant in the sewing world. Bulk it's not that expensive if it lasts.

Good tut, I use the same method for string making except I use a couple of pieces of a wire hanger for the hooks (one at either end) and I usually wind up placing a yoyo in the center and let the string wind up that way. But as they say, what ever works for you and as long as you enjoy the end product ^_^
@423chriscampbell

I use two hooks for holding a cb mic from a truck stop and when I spin it I just lift them off what they are anchored to hold together and have a yo-yo in the middle much easier to spin together. and almost never a single kink
@benrandalls1843
@benrandalls1843 6 жыл бұрын
Check this out. After you get the string spun up and you are ready to find the center and bring the two halves together, try using a yoyo instead of your foot. Once you have the string detached from the drill and whatever it was anchored to, pinch the two loose ends tight with one hand while keeping the string tight with the yoyo in the other hand, let go of the yoyo and let it spin up. you want to hold the yoyo low and the other end up high, of course, before letting go of the yoyo. I found this to be easier because you don't have to tie a knot in both of the loose ends before letting them spin together and you can (and should for this method) work with the string off the ground at a comfortable height. Also, the heavier the yoyo the better. You can always switch it after its done. Great video btw.

When you are "Spinning " the string, you have it sort of riding against one of the other legs of the stool, does it need to do that for some reason? So if i do this useing nails to tie the end of the strig to, do I need to put another nail in about 8 or 10 Inches away from the end and have the string ride up against it? thanks!

*read edit at end* the more you spin it with the drill the smoother the end product will be but if you go too far with it it'll start kinking up and become very difficult to work with and you will have to hold it under a lot more tension to keep it from screwing up but I have made 5 so far (screwed up and scrapped at least 5 attempts)and I'm noticing that the tighter you spin it the slicker the string ends up being. Spin until it starts bunching and then back it off. Running a fingernail down it from the drill to the anchor point and back a few times every now and then while twisting it seems to make it twist more evenly.its a day later now and Never mind it's easy to overspin it. Just spin it until you have a uniform twist on the whole length of the thread.
