How to Make the HBCU Dance Line

Are you currently a dancing doll at an HBCU who is about to try out for the dance line? Well dance teams at HBCU's mostly consist of dancing with the band out on the field and in the stands at games...I am sure you have seen them...they are hard to miss in their fly "you go girl" attire. So if you are preparing for tryout or want to know what it takes to make it, tune into my interview with former Hampton University Ebony Fire dancer and current NBA cheerleader, Diamond, to hear tips to making the team! This is a great Interview, I’m a guy and i go to a HBCU (Grambling State University) I’m now the first male to make an all girls Dance Line in HBCU history I’m so ready for the fall 2018

I don’t have any technique, like I dance and I love it but all the leaps and techniques I just don’t have, not saying it isn’t possible but two things I do have is energy and motivation. And being a dancer it was so basic that all this time I wasn’t even learning any technique and I’m afraid when I get to college next year I might not be able to join anything well at least the hbcu experience

Congratulations to all of you college marching band dancers. People have to be very smart, very athletic, and fast learners. It is amazing to me about how fast dancers can learn and memorize all of the many moves of each dance. It seems like dancers have to have photographic memories. I could never remember all of the many moves of each dance. All of you have probably been dancing ever since you all were toddlers. Everyone does not have a talent for dancing. All of you dancers have to be great athletes, and all of you have to have great health. People that are sickly can't be a good dancer. You all have to know how to have and use good diets. All of you dancers are very amazing. Congratulations for being able to be a great dancer. (Kentron Chamelon/Wednesday/5-22-2019)

Do you have to be in a highschool dance team to do HBCU dance team? My school doesn’t have a dance team and this COVID is making things worst

you dont! but having some dance experience can only increase your chances of making the team!

I love her advice at the end when she advised us to not compare ourselves with other women, but instead focus on ourselves and what would keep the judges eyes on us! I personally get discouraged every time when viewing someone do something that I perceive is “better” then me.

Is there a weight limit? I notice in some teams the girls are all tall and slim and I’m short and stubby so I feel like I would stand out

A weight limit may or may not be a requirement at some institutions. Every team is different. I think if you can dance and keep up with the rest of them is FARRR more important than what you look like. Shake what your momma gave you girl!

I’ve been watching so many videos on how to make an HBCU dance line, specially ebony fire! I’m coming from being on drill team for 4 years (current captain) in high school, any tips?
