Thank you! This is a community service. I bought two rode mic's and for the life of me was completely distraught as to why they were not working. Why don't the manufacturer OR the retailer inform their customers!!! It's such important information!!!

Thank you, it worked! I bought a TRRS to TRS adaptor. Even though i could use another TRRS lavalier with my laptop, the RODE lav was not working without the adaptor. (the laptop having only one mike + headphone port, and not two like yours)

I have just bought a smartlav for my videos and THANK GOD I FOUND YOU, thank you so much for explaining that properly I could'nt find any videos on the subject. Now it's working since I had the correct adaptor and the sound is very good.

I have an adapter from Rode called Rode SC6 which I use to record on the phone and be able to listen to audio from the phone, cause it comes with one port for headphones and 2 ports for microphones, so it's perfect for interviewing people with this thing on a single phone, and thanks to this video now I know that the SC6 can also be used to use the smartlav+ on my laptop. Thank you so much!

I bought the adapter and it still doesn’t work for me

Havin a laptop with just one 3.5mm jack input, you can use Rode's own TRRS to TRS adapter

So this will still allow me to use the headphone jack on my motherboard to use headphones, right? So I plug this into the mic+headphone jacks on my PC case IO, and use my back headphone jack to use headphones.

Will it work if you plug other speakers into the speaker port, and the adapter + smartlav into the mic port?

This is true only if there are separate ports for headphones and microphone on your laptop. If it is only one port for both, it is TRRS and it should work straight away with the smartLav+

With the same mic you get an extension!

I bought it and it adds a lot of noise in the background. Doesn't happen on my phone.
