Today we are going back to basics and making a very simple but elegant box. Will rabbet joints and a simple easy to make rabbet lid. This is an easy project you could do for cheap and it only take about 15-20 minutes. For the finish I will be using two of my favorite new finishes #woodworking #woodworkingprojects #woodenbox

Great idea for the box lids ; no need for hinges. I have been trying to hinge my box lids but I only seem to get them correctly fitted 50% of the time. Your method is so much better. I tried it today for the first time and it worked well.

I like the way you made the box bottoms and tops. I use the same technique, but at the router table. I usually use box joints, but once in a while I will use rabbets to make the box body.Thank you for your videos!

I really like these boxes. They came out so beautiful. I suppose you could put potpourri inside and give them as gifts, or maybe tea leaves, though I imagine the smell of the cedar might add to the tea taste. Anyways, your creations are lovely as usual. Would love to see some wooden desktop organizers as I think you have some pretty woods that you got recently that could make a desk look really sharp. Keep the vids coming. You are awesome.

I enjoy your show. Cutting glue brushes is a great idea, however I find that cutting on a angle gives me a nice ability to get glue in a narrow or tight area. I cut to 45 to 60 degrees. After use I dump them in a pot of water and try to remember to get them out the next day, a bit of rust happens but it cleans up and extends the use a bit.

Skyler could you please only when you have time,make a video on your laser settings and program making that box lid with the flowers cut in it.I have the longer ray 10w so I dont know if its capable of doing that.. Since I have posted this request hours ago I researched further an I think I have found some info I was looking for in the form of height maps ,stl and grayscale files for 3d. I still think this would be a great video when you get time to do it. Thank you.

They really are fantastic looking boxes Skylar. I note that you glued the base on all four sides, do you ever have trouble with expansion / contraction of the base across the grain either on the base itself or affecting the side piece joints?

I was watching a video on guitar finishing, wanted to know what they use to get it so smooth and nice feeling, how they fill the grain etc. The person was doing a sunburst effect using vintage amber, cherry and tabacco brown. I loved the look so I bought the stains:)

Don’t you risk kickback when making a rabbet that way?

No, because is is not a cut through. Its the safest and easier way to do rabbets.

simple and elegant if you have a laser engraver which the purchase of would kinda blow the whole doin it for cheap thing and if you can't afford a laser engraver then it's just a useless run-of-the-mill little box....
