In this video I will walk you through how to make your GNOME Desktop look like Windows 11. If I find a way to make it look even more like Win 11, I'll post a new updated video on that.
How to make Ubuntu look like Windows 11, Win 11, Windows. Although I am using Ubuntu 22.04, any Linux OS with GNOME will work. This video is meant to make GNOME LOOK like Windows 11, but not necessarily act like it. I might create a video in the future on how to make it act more like Windows. Anyway, this video will include installing a Windows 11 theme on Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish, or your Linux Distro. This video will also help you learn more about the GNOME Shell and GNOME Customization to make it look more like Windows.

@@AF-Tech yeah, also, dunno why, but in ubuntu 23.04 manager installation via terminal just doesnt work and stock gnome app manager installation is glitchy AF. So...long live flatpak.

I managed some of the things myself but there were other things I was having trouble working out, and found this online it helped me to actually get Ubuntu to a point where I may actually like Ubuntu for once as I have never really like the standard Ubuntu, I didn't want it to look exactly like windows 11 such as the start menu but if everything works how I want on this I may have finally jumped from windows, but time will tell.

this is very helpful, I did a ubuntu install on an unused pc in the office with a 2nd generation processor and 2GB RAM. people are very happy when they know that the pc is still usable and they are still easy to use because they are windows users since birth. this can be a good way to tell people that linux is also easy to use.

Honestly, you killed the video! Great job! I'm still having some troubles getting the font to work. It doesn't see the segoe package. One tip for you, the screen was a little bit fuzzy so it was hard to see the author of the packages you were installing. You mentioned the name on several which made it super easy but didn't say it on others so I had to zoom in so I could read it. Just a thought for next video. Can't wait!! Good job again!

I followed every step as shown installing it but when I open tweaks & fonts then go to interface text & search for the font, nothing seems to appear. Do you know how to solve that? I tried restarting tweaks as mentioned but I still couldn’t get it to show up

The font will not work for me. Installed it, but it doesn't show on the font list. Also, the clock format is 24 hour, not AM/PM. It's set to AM/PM in the settings, but only shows 24 hour. I thought that it was the Date Formatter extension that wouldn't allow the clock to be AM/PM, but it changed to 24 hour clock before I installed the Date extension. On second thought, it is the Date Formatter extension. If it's enabled, the clock will change to the 24 hour format. Tried it on Debian 12 and Ubuntu 22.04. Got the time format right. If you change MM/dd/yy HH : mm aa to MM/dd/yy hh : mm aa you gt the AM/PM format.

Hey, Great Tutorial ... I selected the theme as Fluent Light but dash to panel is not transparent, I haven't overridden any settings in extension settings ... Can you suggest what I can do?

So you're saying that Fluent Light has applied to your shell but has not made your Dash to Panel transparent? I'm not sure exactly what you have done yet, so since you said that you *haven't* overriden any settings, you should actually try that and change the transparency. If that's not what you meant, feel free to reply and let me know!

I have my icons not in the middle of the bottom panel but to the left - like windows 10. All is great, thank you. I have made a custom icon (that launches a shell script) that is now in my icons in the bottom pane. Is it possible to move this icon to the right hand side of the panel but leave the rest of the icons to the left of the panel? (In ubuntu-mate you can right click a panel icon and 'move' it to anywhere on the panel)

The problem is that the way Dash to Panel was created. It was created so *all* app icon "favorites" are grouped together. I am sorry but I don't know how to do this. Of course, this is Linux, which means there is probably a way to do it, but maybe not with Dash to Panel? Unless you can figure out how to get one icon to "right box" instead of "favorites" or something.

Will I be able to repeat that on Arch? I'm considering switching to Linux, but being a dedicated Windows user I'm scared of the amount of Linux variants. Arch seems to be the only one that has a straightforward guide for my laptop specifically and everything seems to be working, but I'd very much want it to look like Win11, at least for the beginning, as you said.

Gnome extension manager is not available for 20.04. It came in 22.04.

for gnome you missed a step the extensions when installed the gnome-shell-extension-prefs gnome-shell-extensions gnome-tweaks only have 4 options , no user prefs at all.

Clicking on the start menu shows me the usual gnome menu. But if I press the super key it shows me the win 11 menu. Any idea why ?

Yes, you can change that behavior in the settings of the extension. There should be options in both the start menu and possibly the dash to panel extension.

The segoe ui font isn't getting installed, it's stuck on "Do you want to install Segoe-UI Font" page even after entering y. I'm on Ubuntu 22.10 though, do you have any insights? I'm only trying out the font though.

What do you mean by "even after entering y" ?? Are you using the terminal or something? I don't really understand what you mean by that. In this video we used the GUI and clicked the install button, maybe try that instead of the terminal?

@@hen4ya If you installed the font and it's not showing in tweaks, try closing and reopening tweaks. If that doesn't work, tell me because it could be a larger problem with the system not installing fonts.

GNOME is kind of drifting away from customizability for some reason, at least in that aspect. It would be kind of hard, but since it's Linux you will most likely be able to achieve it with some kind of script or something. It would be different for your system and everything, so I can't exactly provide you with a concrete way to do this.

looks good but not recommended. i tried but it causes boot error and have to revert all system.

The only possible way this can make a boot error is if you're on a strange system where the packages that you install in the tutorial have dependencies that need to uninstall other software, which is due to a completely different package in your system. That's because the only other customizations are within the gnome shell, which does create the possibility of a GNOME Shell problem, but not a boot problem. However, if you are able to provide the details of your error, I would greatly appreciate it so I can solve it for the future! 😊

I'm not familiar with switches, but if you're running GNOME desktop on it, then yes you can use this video. However, this only makes it LOOK like Windows 11, not actually become Windows 11 (I made this for people that are switching to Linux but want to still have a familiar look so they don't get confused). But yes, you can do this as long as your hacked switch is using GNOME!

That app is only for Ubuntu 22.04 or later. If you're on a correct version, Try sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager.

If you have correctly downloaded the folder, it should show up. Type ls to see all the files and directories, and if there's nothing there, then you have to download the theme

Thanks for the comment. The beginning of the video explains its purpose. This video is for those who switched to Linux from Windows and want a similar look and feel so they can get used to Linux and eventually remove it. I personally hate windows, but I don't see the harm in encouraging the usage of Linux if it means helping them keep a similar look and feel so they don't feel lost. However, I agree with you and would never use Windows or make my Linux desktop look like it (obviously besides when I made it look like it in this video 😅)

thanks you so much but at the ArcMenu i coudn't do it because it was saying: this.dashToPanel.settings is undefined. so i just gave p but thanks it worked
