Chaga has been used for thousands of years in the Slavic regions (Russia, Siberia, Ukraine, etc.) and cultures of the northern circumboreal areas. Lots of folk wisdom on its uses and benefits and intense studies performed by a medical institute in Russia since the 1950's. Lots of research available on its medicinal properties. I find it a good substitute for coffee as I need to avoid caffeine. It has an earthy, vanilla-like taste. Some folks add sweetner of some type but I like it juast as it is. I get about 5-6 brewings usually (and if you are not off-grid, a slow cooker/crock pot works very well for this). Once it starts to get weaker and lose taste, I still use it to brew other herb teas, just to get all the goodness out of it. Also good when used as the liquid for cooking oatmeal. I know folks who use chaga tea as the base for soup and is especially good in a mushroom or beef soup. Thakns, Mr. James for collecting this chaga and for going through the efforts to make it available to us. I have been drinking chaga for a number of years and am excited to try the one you collected from a very clean remote area.

@@smesh4190 Yes, what tastes pleasant to one person may not taste pleasant to another. What one person finds too sweet, another may find not sweet enough. Palate is an individual thing. In general, most people find that chaga tastes earthy or earthy, vanilla-like. I don't have a sweet tooth so find that I like chaga without anything added to it, similar to how I drank coffee black and unsweetened when I used to drink coffee. Other folks prefer to add a sweetner such as sugar, honey, maple syrup or some such. Personal preference.

@@smesh4190 There is indeed a few hundred published scientific studies starting in the 1950's up to current times on the health benefits of chaga coming out of research conducted by scientific and medical institutes and universities in Russia, Japan, Korea, Poland, China and others. Thousands of years of ethnobotanical use has shown there are health benefits, otherwise humans would not have continued to use it. Modern scientific study is confirming those health benefits. I do my research.

My chaga pot is going 24/7. Low simmer. I grind mine, and add 1/2 tablespoon with every water refill (24 oz). Once a week I will do a few refills with out more chaga till it is light colored and then dump the grounds. Chaga is my personal post chemo maintenance for MCL. I was stage 4 with baseball sized tumors in my chest. I am 3 years out from chemo and in remission.

This what chaga is good for, I googled it. Among them, Chaga is believed to fight inflammation, lower blood sugar, reduce blood pressure, alleviate arthritis, and even prevent or slow the progression of cancer. Chaga is rich in fiber and essential nutrients, including vitamin D, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and calcium.

I haven't a clue what chaga is. Never heard of it until I stumbled upon Shawn's videos, a couple of years back. Been hooked on his videos ever since, but chaga is unknown to me, UK.

Hello from W. MI I have had chaga tea it just feels good drinking it. I wonder what unit of measurement you would use for how many logs and boards you have cut. Let’s go with kilometers! Tell your pup “don’t stop retrievin”

Very entrepreneurial of you! Having options straight from the forest benefits us all. My biggest concern with your product is the packaging- the plastic bag. I am assuming the bag is plastic since I have yet to buy it. Being the conscientious consumer that you are, Shawn, I wonder if you had alternative packaging that was more compostable. Thank you for inviting us to live vicariously through your life style.

Ms. Brendel, Chauga is a healthy immune boosting mushroom. It mainly grows on Birch trees but it is found on other trees also. The taste is very mild, in my opinion. We do not drink it as a hot drink like Mr. James does in this video but as an iced tea/coffee. Both hot or cold is good. I do add a little sweetener but no creamer - just our preference. Chauga supposedly helps with many situations in the body including blood pressure, the heart, lungs and research is saying it helps fight cancer. My husband uses it for cancer and it has been very helpful. He's been using it for 1 1/2 years and so far only 1 tiny tumor that was non-cancerous has showed up.
I changed my mind
