THANK YOU FOR THIS TIP ! I was REALLY surprised by the difference this made. I never would've thought my 4K LG Nanocell 2022 (entry level) would do a better job than my Xbox Series S at upscaling. The 1440p games look just as crisp as they did before I set the 1080p resolution. No loss, all gains !

Wow!!! I am just blown away, I didn't believe a word you said, so I went into settings on my Xbox One S (I don't have the Series S) and turned the resolution down to 1080p and unticked 4K, and it is way sharper now!! I can confirm this 100% because I've got a custom wallpaper in the background and it looks way better now....How on earth????? I'll be trying some games later on to test, but I'm already convinced your technique works but I never would have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes

It's not the Allow 4k box that made your TV look sharper, it's the main resolution display set back to native 1080p Xbox have instead of 4k which is wrong since Xbox only supports 4k native for specific videos in apps and it will force everything in 4k downgrading your image in process. Letting the allow 4k and allow HDR check ✅ with the 1080p display resolución is the way to go.

I did this on mine and wow it looks good. I had 4K turned on before but everything looked dull. Turned off the 4K and it just pops more. Thank you for your suggestion

It's very important on a seriesX to let the "alow 4k " box checked when 1080p it's set in resolution settings options instead of 4k since you will see 4k content trough a 1080p port which somehow looks amazing compared with having the static resolución set to 4k. Especially for games and HDR content it's essential to let the "alow 4k" since other wize you will playing without HDR and a very flat 1080 wich can't compare to 4k UHD HDR that our console still display trough that 1080p port but making everything look way better.

If you check the "Allow 4K" box, the Xbox will play games at 4K regardless of what internal resolution you select in the settings. If you allow 4K and switch your resolution to 1080p for instance, if you take an in-game screenshot and go to the Captures and click on the screenshot you took it will say that it was taken in 4K.

The the thing people don't know about seriesX it's you don't have to put your display resolución to 4k to allow stuff like games and apps to render 4kcontent and your expensive TV to check ✔️ all the 4k support on it. The seriesX comes with 1080p in resolution display from box for a reason, changing that will force it to output 4k static in UI (which it's stupid) deteriorating your image quality in apps and games and even can introduce stutter in KZfaq videos due the playback compatibility with 50,24 Hz.

If you Allow 4k your TV will not upscale the image. Some TV's have really good upscalers

@@frogboyx1GamingThe thing is you want to play games in 4k if possible everytime, upscaled or not, but for some reasons when I put my internal resolución at 1080 instead of 4k on display settings in seriesX all my Samsung TV'S I had from 2017 until now will render a way better crisper and clean image. I had 2 TV'S until now with my seriesX and it was the same for both. Now I run a q70B QLED and the same story. From Apps like KZfaq, Netflix and if course games everything absolutely looks amazing when my native resolution (don't forget that the native resolución for seriesX it's 1080p) in my seriesX it's set to 1080p. Everytime I switch to 4k to console no longer render in his native resolución and it's forced to output 4k 24/7 ending in a washed out image in everything. It's mind blowing how in this time and year nobody talk about this stuff and every "expert" in KZfaq insta tell you the first thing to do it's to set your console at highest display resolución possible when connected to a 4k TV/monitor which it's stupid since it's way better having in 1080p with allow 4k and allow HDR for better playback compatibility. It's not about upscaling here since the seriesX doesn't need upscaling from TV's if the settings are correct in your Next gen console and TV, period.

I try this on my 4K LED. I hope it works on LED's too. Sportgames look really fuzzy and blurry atm with the Series S on 4K Output. 1440p games are slightly better.

@@frogboyx1Gaming I've tried it today. It works! Especially on FIFA 23. Before, I didn’t saw the ball movement at all, the ball was totally pixelated, now it's much clearer. They're still little edges around the ball, but it's way better. The Witcher 3 (Next Gen) looks better at 60 FPS now, almost like the 1440p quality mode, but I still play it at 30 because of the bad draw distance at 60. It works on last gen titles too like Saints Row 4. It's less pixelated and it looks almost like when I played it back then on a Full-HD TV. Sure, the textures are not as good as on current gen titles, like you said, older games, but it's a improvement for me and I'm happy about that! I've played almost 2 Years with the wrong settings 😅 Idk why the upscaler from my 4K LED TV is better than the build-in from the Series S itself. It's great for games at 1080p or lower. I haven’t seen much of a difference at 1440p. Idk if I missed that in the video, but does this backfire when you play 4K games? Does it look worse?

i have a 4k uhd 60hz tv but i find that the 4k uhd is blurry even 1440p 1080p is sharp but it's weird we can see the pixels the game it's too weird...

Do you know if you really have to give up hdr ? Old ps4 has hdr in 1080p ? Thinking of buying S even though I have a 65 4k tv but giving up hdr sounds strange when the old ps4 has it's feature.

Hey Frog, I'm curious to see if you're gonna make a video like this about your monitor? I wonder what I can do to maximize resolution while operating at a lower res to maximize my performance in games that aren't well optimized or games I wanna run at 120fps. Currently all I do with my Series X on my monitor is leave it at 1440p and whenever I wanna run at 120 I switch to 120. I really honestly leave it at 120 at pretty much all times

Amazing tips! Thank you so much for the video! I have been on a think of ‘get a good GPU’ + ‘get a good monitor’ But if the gpu keeps this expensive, hey, why don’t I just get a good upscaling tv? With only a GPU’s cost, I got a new TV as monitor, OLED, 4K and 120Hz experience! I got them all! Yeah, even RTX4090 also has the same approach of upscaling, hey why not I assign the upscaling job to TV, much cheaper than the expensive 4090 which does the same job? My only concern is about lags, do you experience any lags using upscaling tv?

Very impressive but I have some doubts about it. Indeed TV's upscaler are way better than XSS upscaler, but, strangely (because I don't know if it is only on my tv, I don't have another one to try) but when you set the allow 4K option the contrast, color, change absolutely. Spite of that I couldn't notice it on old gen games, I tried with Forza Horizon 5 and indeed when you allow 4K the image turns better, and I'm not talking about resolution or sharpness. I believe that TV scaler are pretty good to old gen games but for the current games I guess not. By the way, you can see what I'm talking about; the gray background of the Xbox's settings turns darker when you enable the "allow 4K"

Hi, the quality indeed looks better with the settings you displayed (1080p disable 4k) but when i try and adjust the hdr settings it tells me my tv or my tv settings don’t permit hdr but when i try the settings with the resolution set to 4k ( and blurry) it works. Does disabling 4k disable hdr as well? Thank you

I bought a q70b Samsung 55" QLED tv and when I switched to 1080p -60hz and disable VRR instead 4k 120 Hz with VRR activaded ( my TV is HDMI 2.1 VRR compatible supposedly) ( very important having alow 4k box checked in your seriesX though) everything looks and play 10 times better on games and apps. It's like it should be on 4k and not viceversa and when I switch to 4k the image still looks good but it's not as crispy and clear as in 1080p and it has a slightly washed out look to it. It's a shame that TV like mine from Samsung which it's mid end TV should be set to lowest settings to look like it should look in 4k in the first place. I don't know if it's the series X or the TV that does subsamling or upscaling since I am not so expert in all this but it's definitely a noticable difference in image quality and in games too. My TV also came in with HDMI Black level in AUTO and it's wrong since it's crushing blacks on my seriesX and I have to put it to normal since my console it's on standard ( like it always should be) and not full RGB . In my TV the Auto and Low are the same with darker darks and you can't see any highlights in the darker areas and when I switch to normal it looks good and I am able to see faces and my pants colors in games again. To be honest I don't even think 90% of what this companies like Samsung, Sony,LG says about their TV's it's true. For example a friend of mine bought a neo QLED (can't remember the series the exact model though) with the information about the TV 📺 being at 1500nits peek brightness only to find out that it was capped at 1000 so yeah. I love this videos and it's enrage me how all this "expert calibrators" never talk about this stuff on KZfaq ( I mean 4k TV's looking better trough a 1080p port in case if having a seriesX connected to it , especially If they are 2.1 HDMI ports).

Edit; Samsung TVs should always be in Auto or Low HDMI black level for consoles. What what was crushing blacks for me was the Contrast enhancer set on high. Contrast enhancer on a high end TV like I have (QN90C from Samsung) should never be used. Low end TV's can take advantage of contrast enhancer for HDR but for everything else it would crush your blacks significantly.

Yes buy the Settings S. I think you will be pretty satisfied with it for now. Just try the 1080p trick it will help with image quality
