Thanks for the video. I've worked on these as a tech but not a lot. Now I'm looking at buying an old RV with one so doing some research and found your videos. Appreciate your info. Will help me and possibly some of my customers as well.

If you do have a HEUI pump failure it's a good idea to pull the end plugs out of the oil rail in the head and clean it out so you don't get any metal into the injectors. Usually, if there is even a hint of flake in the oil when I drain the head, I do injectors and the pump as a set to prevent any future failures. Seen a lot of HEUI pump's replaced and few weeks or months later it's back getting injectors. Excellent videos, not many people take the time to thoroughly explain some of this stuff and even a lot of dealer mechanics don't fully understand them!

I work on school buses with c7s we just started getting the Heui pumps with the inline filters now. Sucks every heui oil line has to be changed over now. But hopefully we won’t be changing out pumps as much anymore. Great video

It looks like there are pac brake and Jacobs exhaust brakes. Do you know if there is also an engine brake for theses engines. Can you speak to the pros and cons of theses options? can oil sludge on the heui pump cause the internal solenoid to stop working? is it possible to clean it and re-install it?

Great video, I have an 05 mandalay bus freightliner chassis with a c7 that has a failing heui pump to fix, it'll be getting the updated kit with the filter

I've replaced that oil supply lime with just removing the power steering pump and the power steering adapter to the air compressor

the most important thing to do is replace the oil and filter every year. It is very hard to work on the 3126 in my RV (I just replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets) - there is no room. A school bus would be a lot easier. So I'm not tackling either of these job unless CAT announces a recall.

I would appreciate it you would do a video along the same lines for the cat 3116. I own a truck with a 3116 and want to make sure I am doing the best I can for it.

I have a cat 3126 in my freight liner water cart truck and I have just done a fair bit of replacing old parts with new like water pump, radiator, rebuild the turbo... I found that the waste gate actuator was not working, I tested it and air was coming out without pushing the rod. My question is at what psi should the waste gate open so I can replace it with an aftermarket one.

How much does it typically cost to get the high pressure oil line replaced and an in-line filter for the HEUI installed?

Our 'new to us' 2007 Cheetah is powered by a 2006 Cat C7 350hp ACERT engine. Cat recommends their branded 15-40w oil for warmer climates and 10-30w for cooler. We just purchased the coach and are concerned about the HEUI pump issue so are making the mods Cat recommends to 'solve' the failure issues. My question involves people's experience with the newer tech synthetic oils...specifically Valvoline premium blue 5w-40 and Rotella T6 5w-40. They are less expensive than Cat and would seem to offer a solution to all climate needs. I am going to change the HEUI pump and add the inline filter and reseal the oil cooler just for precaution and am inclined to use either of the above oils but would like some historical reference to work from.

Would it be possible to post copies of the documents you mentioned or is that not allowed by cat? If you need someone to host them let me know.

So I just installed this inline filter today How often am I supposed to replace the filter? It seems like it will be almost impossible to change it with the air compressor installed.

The oil filter level (CAT-1808) on my HEUI C9 engine was 4 inches below the top of the filter on the last oil change. I reinstalled empty and removed again after a 180 mile round trip. Again the level was 4 inches below the top of the filter. Oil start-up pressure is 125 PSI, sequentially I've installed an oil heater for cold days. The HEUI pump doesn't like high or moderately high oil pressure under a high load. Until the engine coolant is 205 F and oil temperature/pressure is below 40 PSI is the HEUI pump is in its operating parameters. What's the pressure for the oil bypass valves to open? And why two bypass valves, top and bottom? Thank you for your channel.

How’s it going Adept Ape? I just started watching your videos and they are very helpful. I’m from Houston Texas and I own a C6500 with a 3126 CAT engine. I put a few gallons of gas in my truck. It didn’t make it out the gas station. As soon as it started losing power I turn the truck off. I drained all the fuel and refilled it back up with fresh diesel. It cranked right up and I left back to the warehouse . The truck doesn’t go past 30mph and it starts hesitating and blowing white smoke when I start pushing past 35 mph. I been driving it like that for about a week now trying to push out that bad fuel. Now I’m starting to worry. What do you thing from your experience?

To test the heui high pressure on a 3126, do you take out the iap sensor and use that port? What should pressure be while cranking? I have a crank no start issue 99 freightliner . Changed timing sensors already. No codes, tach reads zero while cranking also when on either no tach, check engine light comes on with key so assume ecu is getting 12v. iap solenoid may also be bad is there a way to ohm it? Hey guys! I have a C7 engine family 5CPXH0442HBK with the cylinder head off and the walls on cylinder #3 with some scratches, if not gouges. The original symptoms were huge blowby coming out and blue smoke / oil coming out of the tail pipe. What is weird is that cylinder and head area for cylinder #3 are dry and we found oil on top of the other cylinder / head area. Also, only cylinder #3 exhaust manifold hole is wet of oil and the other ones are dry. Please let me know what are the chances that this engine can be rebuilt, maybe by cutting the walls and putting bigger pistons. Or, what are the margens /specs / limit for cutting the walls. MY oil cooler was leaking back in 06'. Had it rebuilt no issues with the HEUI pump, thankfully. I have 621,000 miles on a 2000 Freightliner FL80 with the orginal 3126 motor.

I have a 04 Ford F650 truck with the 3126B engine and about 62k on it. Getting alot of pining under a load or just when the transmission is about to downshift going up a hill. Almost seems like it's running lean because the exhaust dont smell like a normal diesel should. What could the cause of this be?? Been like this since it was bran new.

Hello brother congratulations for the videos of the channel. I am Brazilian and work with heavy machinery mechanics. I've got a c11 cat, which is losing power. This engine has no fault, except for one related to the atmospheric pressure sensor, but has already been corrected. We're analyzing the turbocharger,but apparently there's no problem with it either. You should know that the injection system is THE MEUI. What problems can this engine present?

Cat c9 I installed new actuation pressure sensor after installing it started normal but after 15 minutes it stopped and now it won't start and no error codes are there but maintenance light comes on Also i removed the actuation pressure sensor and cranked but there is no oil pressure

Hey sir been following your videos (best videos out there)I have a 04 KAL30004 C7 I started by reading the flash code (learned on your video) I got the following 3-9. 5-8. 1-5 Called cat And they lectured me on using Flash codes and that I should just use cat ET but I think the Flash Code are just fine. Based off the codes I decided to get the IAP SENSOR And the Fuel pressure regulator. Tried cranking it crank crank but no start check the fuel pressure where the fuel filter is read well over 50 psi. So then I pulled the valve cover didn't see any of the injectors abnormally leaking pulled the injectors inspect the O rings O rings still look new ( replaced 2 months ago) So now I wanted to drop the oil Pan to inspect if cooling is leaking into the oil so I drained the Pan didn't get all the oil out So I check the dipstick and the dipstick is still Reading full. So confused at this point the oil on the dip stick looks new and smells funny (like coolant ) while the oil that was drained from the pan black....still very confused please help I will donate if given guidance Thanks Rico

I've done this many times in my life for such situations I get a big piece of Emory 600 maybe 8 by 11 and put it on a piece of glass..... this is the important part find a nice television show have a 12 pack of beer beside you and just keep beer sending it.... you will know when it's done when you sand it and it all turns out correctly no high spots no low spot...... I've done this so many times when I can't shim a gear or I can't get shims 1 -3 hours on glass in a thousands thinner........

I have freightliner M2 with Cat C7, it was smoking bad and low power when I bought, all injectors were bad so got those changed. Power is OK now but smokes a lot when start up, runs rough till water temperature hits 150, once water hits 150 on temperature,smokes reduces a lot and runs smooth. While running sometimes exhaust gives blue smoke puffs, startup has mixed smoke white and bluish. Please suggest what can be cause to this!

Maybe use a piece of glass with some very fine sand paper, put a little solvent on the sand paper and push the face of the oil cooler adaptor plate back and forth on the sand paper until it's flat.

Hello, don't know if you still respond to these posts but I will try as I need some knowledge about my c7. I bought a 2006 f650 , 26' box truck with a c7 motor in it. I do not know how to service it. I don't even know if the large plastic reservoir is for antifreeze or if it is some kind of fluid for the smog crap on a diesel. I had a stalling problem that turned out to be a low on oil problem when I first got the truck that cost me 2000 to find out and 3 mechanics ( so-called ). I never thought to check the oil as it had just been serviced before I bought it by the PO but that was the problem all along. So after having a new injector pump put on for no reason among other things, I would like to have a better understanding of the motor so that I can avoid this kind of problem in the future. I am suddenly leaking fluid from the bottom of the ac condenser ( I think) that I had thought was just condensation and I also found a puddle under the truck that may or may not be antifreeze but has no real odor but has a slight oily feel but is not oil. I need to familiarize myself with how to service this truck before I destroy it. A little help would be great! thanks---

just resealed a heui pump on a 3126 on saturday...steamed and road tested and had truck running for awhile afterward as well and everything was dry. THEN it came back last night with customer saying they think the oil line was still leaking (just replaced). turns out the pump is still leaking oil on the bottom of the mating surface! are these pumps pretty known for oil leaks? i think that was the second time it was resealed in the past year and my foreman just wants to order a new o ring and try resealing it again. im thinking it needs a new pump considering those factors and it looks like the oil leak might actually be coming from the back side of the plate not the mating surface. any thoughts? i don’t know too much about these heui pumps or cats in general... sorry for writing an entire book!

Ape, what if I have a c7 that has boost issues and suspect waste gate problems. Does Cat have replacement waste gate? Or do I really have to buy a new turbo? Mr. Adept Ape, I'm looking at buying a 2002 school bus with a cat 3126 with 220,000 miles to convert to an RV. The engine fired right up and idled smoothly. With a cold engine (Miami FL 80 degree day), there's some blow by at idle visible with the oil fill cap removed. I'd call it mild amount of smoke/vapor with no force. With my palm over the opening, I could not feel any pressure or pulsation. Can I get your opinion on the condition on this engine based on this little information please? I really appreciate all comments on this. Thank you!

Hey adept ape... I love learning new things about cat engines on your channel! I myself am a certified tech at a freightliner dealer so I work on mainly Detroit and cummins engines. Although my favorite engines a cat! I was wondering if there is still a way to get certified to work on cats without working for a cat dealer. Maybe online? There are only a couple techs at our shop that are certified on cats so I think it would be an advantage for a younger tech like me to get certified on them. Please let me know, thanks!

If possible please provide the part number for the new line without the pump. Since you have to remove so much, to install the new line, do you recommend just replacing the pump with a new one?

We have 2 dump trucks with c7s and Allison 6 speeds one is night and day difference power wise. So we did huei pump on my slug no difference. No engine codes runs perfect just has half the power.
