How to make your motorcycle look amazing.
In the final episode of this series, I’m going to show you how to make your motorcycle look super shiny with wax and polish, how and why you should scrub your tyres, and how to make your exhausts look as good as new. If you are new to riding or have never had the experience, I’ll also show you how to check your engine oil and tyre pressures.
I'll also show you the products and techniques I use to not only protect the paint but create a deep glossy shine too.
Whether you have been riding for years or new to motorcycling, in this easy-to-follow series I'll show you step-by-step How-To Clean, Protect and Maintain your motorbike.

Generally polish be used before wax. Idea being you are polishing out the fine scratches and restoring the paint somewhat then a wax after seals and protects the now clean flat paint.

Thanks for your comment and advice, Tom. I’ve used quite a few different brands of polishes and waxes over the years, as I’m sure you have, and have found the combination of Meguiars Ultimate Wax and Speed Polish really does make my paint look amazing and this combination has also transformed paint on other peoples bikes and cars too. It has made me wonder what it would be like applying polish first, which I did years ago but got into the habit of using this technique as I’ve been so pleased with the results. It’s worth me pointing out that I used a different process to remove deep scratches. Thanks again for watching and sharing your advice. 😁👊

Hey Phil, just finished watching this entire series and truly like your style and the way you explain and go over things. As another person commented, they have a great "feel" to them and the sound quality (even with the bad mic) is totally awesome. I can hear everything. Not too loud and not too quiet and most importantly NO wind noise. Truly professional quality. Thanks for sharing your tips and decades of riding wisdom also (never heard of ACF50 before...). I shied away from a "full" bike detailing in the past because it seemed daunting but after watching your videos and seeing how you broke it into segments I am excited to give it a go. It's still cold here in Ontario Canada but looking forward to the warm weather. You got a beautiful bike by the way!!! Keep the great videos coming. Ride safely dude

Hi Sandor. Thanks so much for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. I'm trying my best to create the best quality videos I can, even with my old editing software, and have lots to learn still to produce even better quality if I can. I'd much rather create fewer videos at this stage but produce them to a level I'm happy with. I'm also pleased to help that breaking down the different stages of cleaning has helped. Even if you practice one stage at a time the whole process doesn't become too overpowering. There are obviously so many products available these days which you can use, but these are the products that I've found work best for me and my current bike. I'm also testing other products that others have recommended in the comments so I'm sure I'll update this series again one day. Enjoy looking after your bike, and let me know how you get on!

I have just gotten my first 125cc and really want to make sure I take care of it and show it the respect it deserves. Regarding tyre pressures, when I had my two speed triples I kept the tyre pressures as Triumph recommended them, I now own a 2017 street triple r, and had my suspension set up at MCT, and was recommended to run both tyres at 36 psi, and it feels fine .

Thanks for sharing Paul. I’ve experimented with tyre pressures and have also run at 36 psi rear. I know some people who run at 33 psi rear. A subject for another video I think! 😁👊

Great video Phil. Heres a tip, only use stainless wire wool, readily available nowadays. Reason is bits of that steel wool get into nooks and crannies and rust/stain the bike. I use Abranet cloth, 320. What soap do you use on the tyres? Dish soap? Cheers

Thanks very much. I just use soap and water to keep my clean. I used to have these really awesome Turtle Wax leather wipes I used on my old Hotrod to keep the leather soft and clean. Any good leather cleaner should do the trick if it needs it would be my advice but you will find yourself sliding around for a bit! 😜👍

Excellent film that, I love and understand your OCD as I can be the same, congratulations on your bike as it looks amazing and as somebody who's getting back into photography after a 30 year break then a series of "how to" films would be excellent. Sound issues? I listened through head phones and apart from a little low frequency buzz I didn't detect any issues.

@@TheAdventuresofPhilJones I first watched your cleaning film in the summer and quickly purchased some ACF, on Sunday I snow foamed the bike and straight away the sun came out and dried it, it took 3 washes to sort it, after drying I was ready for the ACF50 and low and behold I couldn't find it, nightmare!! lol. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

It really depends on the weather and road conditions. I think last year I gave it a good clean at the beginning and end of the riding season! Remember I’m fortunate I have press bikes to play with also!

Looking good! But, polish is a fine abrasive that's designed to remove fine scratches and swirl marks. Wax is used afterwards to create a shine full in larger scratches and protect the finely polished paintwork. That's what I've learnt over the years from starting as an Autoglym enthusiast to now being a Dodo Juice obsessive. But who gives a crap as long as it looks good and your happy with the result.

Thanks buddy! You’re absolutely right!! I think if I was using Meguairs polish, then I might apply the text book way, but as you say, it what works for you and give’s the best results. Hi Phil, your videos are extremely helpful. I have a question. After doing all this hard work and getting the bike looking flawless, you go out for a great ride. But inevitably, you end up hitting countless bugs and now the bike is covered in dust and bug splats after just a few hours. Do you leave them on until you do another full wash, or do you try to do a partial wash on the affected areas? I have a matt black street triple that is my obsession, but I also ride it as much as possible all year round and live in the countryside with very hard water. This means I have to avoid wax or polishing as to not increase the shine or gloss, and be very careful with water as just leaving a tiny bit on leads to nasty mineral deposits. Being matt black it often feels like merely looking at it will leave a mark so it's always a headache wanting to ride a lot while simultaneously keeping it clean! Thanks Phil.

Hi! Thanks for watching and your kind comments. That’s a good question. I use a microfibre sponge or microfibre cloth which is damp. Place it over the bugs and they will lift off without any effort. You can also buy a protective spray for matt paint. I believe Mucoff do one? 😁👍

Hi. I have found your videos really helpful. Thank you. I have followed your instructions and now my 2018 Speed Triple S is looking great. However, is there anything I can do to improve the appearance of the coolant pipes, as they really detract from the overall look of the bike? They have become faded and scruffy looking. I noticed that they regained their colour when they got ACF 50 on them, but soon returned to their faded look.

Thanks for your feedback and support, I’m pleased the videos have helped. I know what you mean about ACF-50 on old pipes, it doesn’t last long term. In the past I used boot polish, or you could use a black trim or tyre restorer. There are a few products on the market now, I suggest picking one and try researching on line for customer feedback! @@kevinbonardt2104 You’re very welcome. Please remember I’m not a professional but just learnt techniques which have worked for me. It really depends on how deep the scratch is, if you wet it and it disappears then you should be able to repair the paint. I use a really fine wet and dry like 5000 or 8000 grit and carefully work over the scratched area, but then you want to mop it. I would recommend talking to a paint repair company who may be cheaper than you think and would do a cracking job! Autobrite Direct offers a paint restoration service and I used Chips Away to help me out a couple of times! 👍

Thanks so much, I appreciate it. I agree with your observation but I believe it’s a little different when using MucOff Speed Polish. I could be wrong and I do want to talk to MucOff about this, but in my experience this seems to be the best way to apply these products. If I was using a Meguiars Polish it may be different. Have you seen my video where I used Autobrite products?

Hi mate, 1 like and 1 new sub! I have a question 🤔 I have a harley davidson softail 2006, Lots of chrome Whats the best step by step process for me? I'm confused about acf50 on the exhaust and polish and wax etc etc Autosol dulled my exhaust when It got hot, Here's what I was thinking Pre rinse Snow foam/jetoff after Shampoo sponge wash Leaf blow and leather dry Acf50 all over on everything! Then chrome polish What after that? I'll await your reply! Thanks

Hi! Thanks for the like and sub. I’ve been giving this some careful thought, and would agree with the order. I checked my notes and in my research if you coat everything with acf50 after cleaning and drying, it leaves a very fine coating which will protect the bike. You can then apply the wax and polish etc. I use White Diamond metal polish, link in description, this is brilliant for chrome and also contains an amount of anti corrosion protection. If you polish the chrome and then apply acf50, it will dull but apply first will definitely help. I checked this with a professional valet (FC Trott on Instagram) who uses this method. I understand your confusion as it appears you are polishing and removing the acf50 if you apply it first! Test it on a small hidden area first to make sure you are happy with the results. It is awesome stuff, I’m confident you will love it! Let me know how you get on. 😁👍

What do you use to wash tyres with as I am unsure and don’t want to make the tyres / walls slippery and dangerous..

Mild soap and water, and a tyre scrubbing brush. Apart from making the tyres look as good as new the main purpose of cleaning them is to remove anything which could make the tyres slippery such as polish or splatters of oil! 👍

@@TheAdventuresofPhilJones Weathers not great. I am still off work with long Covid. I can’t can’t go out on the bike, even if I was up to it . If my employer see social media they would not pay me. Fortunately I got some pictures from last summer for IG . Just watching and viewing everyone else’s social media for now.

May i ask if the MucOff Polish left any residue on your engine case??I see your engine case has wrinkle paint and made me wonder . MucOff also makes the Motorcycle Protectant and i thought that might be more appropriate maybe??? Should i buy both just in case or thre Polish is good for everything?? Thank you

Hi George. The Mucoff Speed Polish doesn’t leave any residue I’ve also started using Mucoff Motorcycle Protectant for the non painted areas and it works really well. I would recommend getting a can! In the summer months, I find myself blowing off the dust and removing bugs, then give the paint a light coat of Speed Polish to improve the shine! I hope this helps! 😁👍

When it needs it is the honest answer. I don’t like it staying dirty for too long. I do get pleasure in looking after my bike! 😁👍

Uh, wax is the protective layer, polishing removes a "layer" basically....so yeah, your polishing your wax layer and probably in the end have the scratches etc filled in with wax! So the result will be shiny, but the protection and shine wax provides isn't really used!

I’ve had a few similar comments and because in this case I was using MucOff Speed Polish I wasn’t working it into the paint like normal polish. That’s my excuse anyway! I am sorry to tell you I detail my car but you wash compound then polish. Or polish I'd it only needs polish then you wax to protect that mug off seems like a two and one product polish and wax so basically all that wax you put on you are taking off with that muc off and it lays down it's own wax

Found it a but odd that you would scrub the tyres after polishing and waxing the bike...

Hi, thanks for watching. The idea of scrubbing the tyres is to make sure there’s no unwanted polish or product on the tyres, so I get maximum grip. It only needs a light scrub with water and doesn’t make a mess if you’re careful. 👍
