finding the right paper to airbrush on can be a challenge especially if you want to do erasing and scratch back techniques

Thanks mukka but moved on when you showed how to use polyester high build on paper . I knew that stuff would go down on most materials but not paper with no bowing after aplication 😊😊

You just sparked an effort in me to find an equivalent to my favourite Frisk C.S.10 illustration board and cartridge paper that I used many moons ago, I found that Frisk do something that sounds like the next best thing called YUPO paper, that works with all types of media and is resistant to buckling because it's made with synthetic materials .. it would be interesting to know if its any good for airbrush illustration .. Have you (or any watchers) ever heard of it?

I've heard of it and my hobby lobby sells it but I never used it, I've seen videos of artist using it the art workshop used it.

Great video, and great information. I have been using Gesso on canvas panels, I apply it with a taping knife, I apply 5 coats then wet sand it with 220 grit sand paper, and I use a taping knife to smooth the wet sanding liquid. It is a great painting surface, when the panels dry, they have some warpage. How would you suggest that I straighten them?

try ironing on the back with medium heat if your paper is cotton... the art workshop has a good video using your technique...

I'm just learning but I've been putting on about 3 layers of thick gesso with a foam roller, then trowelling the material away. I then let cure and wet sand the next day. Not perfect results but I do not have access to a large spray gun. I have thought about trying to spray the gesso with my Creos Ps-290 but I am weary of destroying the gun. Any thoughts?

Hi the 290 would struggle with gesso I think if the way you doing it now works for you stick with it 😉

Really easy fill the cup half way with water give it a good shake and empty out then wash the cup and lid in dish soap and rinse off in cold Water as for the gun part hold under the tap pull the trigger in and flush it through after that put it back together hook it back up to your Airline and blast a small amount of water through it again 👍

I need to buy a spray gun because I brush mine on but it does get very textured. Can you recommend a decent but cheaper spray gun?

Hi have a look at the a.n.i range with a set up of 1.4mm or 1.6mm that would be fine for spraying gesso

What is ratio of gesso to water is it 1-1?

@@saltireaquatics9093 That would vary a lot depending on which brand of gesso as they all vary a little on how thick or thin they are in the pot. Its gonna involve some trial and error, start by thinning it a little at a time untill it seems thin enough to spray, and give it a test. Make a note of what gets you the best success. (if you need actual numbers, it might be easiest to measure it by weight as youre going to have a hard time measuring ml's of thick gesso. I think most just do it by look/feel and experience to be honest. )
