Thanks very much for this video, I have two and a half "upgrade suggestions which i implemented myself. 1: Use but hinges with removable pin 2: The "gap" you have between your panels.... Rotate / alternate (if 3 panels) and you can slat up right to the edge 3: use plastic Slat caps .... and indiustrial strength velcro. (Cut the pins of the caps. It makes spacing easier) Allows more fexibility on the slat and if something breaks its easier to replace

Wonderful video, thank you! I understand how to find the length (& make in sections!), but I'm wondering if there is an equation you used to figure out how deep to make the couch based on the size of the bed? For example, if you know you want the overall bed width (fully extended) to be 54", would you make the couch and pull-out slats to be 27" (1/2 of 54") each? Thank you!

Hi Dan, it is hard to tell on your video, but are these slats the laminated and glued type with a bow in the middle of them to give some spring? These are the only sort I can see on the Ikea website. Also, with having to screw each slat down at both ends does that still allow the same amount of spring and / or does that put some extra strain on the screws when the weight of a person sleeping on the bed, tending to flatten out the curved slats, making them longer? Excellent videos by the way and many thanks for making them ;-)
@dantheman321

The beds slats come on there own. You can get different amounts and different length so make sure you know what size you need. Think they are advertised as single bed slats and double etc hope this helps 👍 many thanks for watching 👍👍

If you are building a 4 foot width - do you still recommend doing two slides?

You might get away with doing one pull out at that size.

Do you have the link or where you got the sliders from? What’s the load capacity of these ones? Cheers

I don't have a link but I got them from IKEA because the quality of those were far superior to the ones I've used before. Not sure what the load capacity is but I've never had a problem using this setup in the past. Many thanks for watching 👍

These sort of beds are very limiting. You cannot carry passengers, you cannot take 4 people around the table and the table is the wrong shape for practical use. Now the construction, to start with the sliders must be rated at 150kg each, since the overhang is unsupported and the rest of the materials needs to be strong. So this is much more expensive than the more practical R&R frame. You can pick up a ready to bolt in R&R frame for under £200, which is 100% rigid and folds up in seconds with no rearranging of cushions. Underneath is easy access storage bin for a ton of stuff and behind the couch goes all your bedding and clothes. Down side..you tell me?
@didoivanov6292
@didoivanov6292 10 күн бұрын
i will tell you,with the R&R you are changing the whole layout.You can not lift it for storage access,you have to crow down etc.What about cooking? Most of the time the stove is permanently mounted sideways with the R%R-very uncomfortable.What about the sink? IF its after the hobs you can not use it while you are on the sofa,so you will crow down to the floor to reach the sink and use it?What about the rear windows? This is an extra source of lightbut you are ruin it with the R%R and the tall shelf next to it.This is a micro camper solution,but you are talking about 4 ppl around the table...omg..i can continue more..
@allanb52
@allanb52 9 күн бұрын
@@didoivanov6292 Yes your layout is not idea. With a R&R bed you simply lift the seat and can access everything, if you slide the seat back a little to you rest the legs on the frame so it acts like a stay. In terms of cooking and using the sink, with a SMEV 2 burner and sink, you can do both comfortably, so cook, with both rings, wash up and wash all seated. With a swivel double seat, four can eat in prefect comfort with a simple camping table. They sell thousands of these R&R beds for good reason. They are sturdy, comfortable, cheap, versatile and provide loads of accessible storage. No need to reinvent the wheel.
