my friend only makes builds he get to tier1-2 see the build would need investment and remake a build he never got past yellow maps

then hes like iv never dropped a single exalt in 7 years but duh he makes more builds than he plays

also you can basically play ssf but poke your nose out for items you want. ssf is basically for bragging right anyway.

it's just you. No one can start making builds without enough experience. If you are a new player and want to make a build but need lots of explanation for in-game mechanics because you are discovering them, you should follow a guide and play the game until you know enough about it. This guide is not for brand new players who don't know basics, it explains how to make a build. It's for people who have enough knowledge about the game to make a build and don't know where to start.

nugi is a better content creator for starting

Just go to hcssf, pick pobs there, open, respec some points from hp to damage nodes and that's it. Delve builds like 1hp 37es flaskfinder are not very useful for a normal sane mapping person.

That only works early on, imo. Deep delvers go to zero defense (no life, es, def nodes at all) builds quite soon into depth ~700-1000

both points are true though... if you canèt kill anything, then defense is basically useless since you'll be hit way more by enemies. but if you advance to endgame and have no defenses, you will pop even by getting hit by a couple of enemies. so at the end of the day, defense is more important, but you can't have defense without having offense

@@davidsearle5817 I wasn't attempting to be critical of Nugiyen. I was attempting to point out how arbitrary many of these types of discussions are. Baeclast or any POE discussion devolves when it creates an order of importance. Order of importance is irrelevant. It's the interaction of the variables that produce a particular mechanical state within the mathematics of the game.

Just to note. I spend my first 700+ hours of POE making my own builds and got nowhere. Thats why i started using others :x So failure is not an option!

I agree with this. The PoE University series lacks structure and logical layout imo, and thus doesn't offer much to the newer player. For eg, I get Nugi's point that your build should balance offence, defence and mobility. But no tips are offered on how to achieve this. For me, a logical starting point would be to advise people to get at least +150% Life on their passive tree, or ES if they're going that route. That is a tip that even the most rank noob can follow. As you say, the topics just jump around and result in an impromptu conversation between veteran players that doesn't really offer much to noobs. I think it would help if Ziz made a list of bullet points that he wanted to address with each topic, and then worked through them systematically, ensuring that each point is covered thoroughly and concludes with simple practical advice before moving on to the next. It should also follow the teaching principle of moving from the known to the unknown, never suddenly introducing the unknown without context or introductory explanation. That is guaranteed to lose the newer player and leave them frustrated, feeling they haven't learned anything. Teaching is not something you can do in an ad hoc manner, the lesson content and flow needs to be planned and structured. Being able to play the game well is one thing, being able to teach effectively is another. It's an almost universal trait in PoE that 'instructional videos' are anything but instructional.

@@porous9 also have you ever played kaye's spectre summoner or seen her videos? I love the way she breaks everything down. I definitely think you and gio hit the hammer on the head with the comments. Its just tons of information to not have a lot of structure.

@@boochvans I've played Kay's Spectre Summoner. And a big reason I played it is because her vids are so clear and logical and thorough. Another great build maker is Esoro. His video guides are top notch - clear, simple, easy to follow, and they go from A to Z without missing anything or leaving you confused about any aspect of the build or how it works. If I had the PoE knowledge, I'd definitely make videos for new players. I'm a writer by profession. Taking complex technical subjects, breaking them down to a level the public can understand, and then laying it all out in a clear logical A-Z flow is what I do for a living. Alas, I lack the PoE knowledge to do it. But I can certainly pinpoint where instructional videos go wrong and leave the audience confused.

dont think thats really the fault of the build imo, but outta curiosity can u show what two builds you're referring to? i think its mainly that the casual players just make common mistakes and/or dont know how to scale their items properly (no life or damage rolls are a basic example) rather than the builds being inherently flawed. Build guides are meant to be followed a bit loosely, and its unreasonable to think it should be able to carry you all the way to late endgame without the player having to put in effort to learn how to scale his own items.

It's the Path of Building Community Fork - google it and it should be the first thing.

Occultist has great cold DoT scaling, but wintertide brand really feels nice when you have a lot of cast speed so you might look at Trickster instead. (I'm probably starting Vortex Cold DoT occultist, so I looked into wintertide brand and if I wanted to main skill that instead) Either way, it seems like it will be very easy to gear a character like that in SSF, so good luck exile!

after switching to vulkan I definitely get a lot less spikes, even opening legions.

For early yellows? Yes. As long as you don't run rippy mods this is fine. Also, assuming around 5k life, capped resists and some semi-well rolled flasks.
