The finger sling is one of the more common things that archers make on their own. I'll show you some tricks to make yours comfortable, that won't loosen and that is the perfect length for you! I'll also show you how to use a shoelace finger sling and how to make the loops correctly.
All you need to tie your own finger sling for archery use is to use a shoelace! Oval athletic shoe laces work great as do hockey laces, both come in great colors and are comfortable and don't loosen.

For Jake's finger sling on a shoestring budget search for "Oval" Shoe Strings; because in archery we need to know that there are flat, round, rawhide and oval shoestrings. I did and I am excited it's in the post from our favourite global dominating super store... Thank you Jake!

FYI, the loop you make when putting the sling on your fingers is called a larkshead knot.

Great little informative tip, I'm not sure how long it will last, but I just got it to the correct length and melted the two ends together into one continuous loop, as I didn't like having a knot. 🙂👍

Great video, I alway use a finger sling made of paracord, I will try using the string you mentioned. Would you consider making a video of how you personalize the bow grip and what materials do you use for this? I would appreciate it very much

OK this is way off topic but I would like to understand something for myself and maybe others out here in KZfaq land. I'm a brand new barebow shooter who's coming from the compound world and I have an equipment question. With my compound I use a Spot Hogg Edge arrow rest that delivers incredible accuracy for me. On my new riser I've mounted a plunger and a magnetic wire rest and adjusted it to shoot very well. It seems to me that it would be prone to get out of adjustment very easily if bumped around even slightly. Is there something that precludes and or hinders the same accuracy if I mounted the Spot Hogg to my new riser for barebow shooting? Again just consider me stupid since I'm just learning the ropes for this, thank you.

You just need to pull out the core of a paracord and will have that hollow-feel lace but it will last a lot longer.

I use a cotton shoelace. Its short enough to avoid the need to cut it and very comfortable on the finger than nylon.

Hello, How long is the fingersling in centimeters? Because sometimes i made it too long or too short.

What length of lace are you starting with before you cut it in half? The Amazon link (Thank you for that) has multiple lengths

Would this work with a samick sage recurve? It's wooden riser doesn't have an obvious place to loop it.

Any reasons why recurve archers tend to prefer finger slings, but compound archers tend to prefer bow sling?

Well, for compound they dont need to drop there bow, just keep the bow there, and it originates for hunting. In recurve, they need something that will allow them to drop the bow.
@Sardothien

A few reasons. The others here are correct. Compound bows don't jump out of the hand as much as recurves, so they don't always need to have a sling at all. The reason wrist slings are more popular than finger slings is because compounds tend to be much heavier. Having that much force pulling on your fingers hurts. Recurve archers tend to prefer finger slings because their bows swing and it's usually more comfortable to follow through with a finger sling than a wrist sling.

I mean its pretty obvious, he explained the bow jumping forward. The sling lets it jump forward without falling on the ground and you get the swing motion because of the fingersling otherwise it would just fall on the ground. SInce if you are shooting well you shouldnt be gripping the bow after you shoot it should jump out. Its not his fault you havent watched any of his other videos stop whining.

Just another gimmick that people think makes them shoot better... lots of fads that stick around because people think it helps.... just grab the dam bow and shoot straight... the bow jumping out of your hand can never make tig shoot better but what ever

If you are grabing the bow before the arrow leaves the rest you will torque the shot.
