I just finished two of these for a friend that turned out 12" in total length from end to end. That includes the attachment holes in each end. The lengths of cord I used are as follows: The four strand core was started with 4' 2" as he instructed The base layer cobra weave used almost exactly 10' (I started with 15' as he instructed but ended up with almost exactly 5' left over.) The final cobra weave used exactly 13' 4" (I started with 20' total and ended up with 6' 8" left over.) You should probably start with a little more than actually needed just in case, but there's no need to waste 5 or 6 feet of cord if you don't have to. Happy weaving people!

Great tutorial! Never worked with 550 cord before. Just completed my first front handle, and I'm impressed with my work, if I do say so myself! Thanks for all the detail!
@Salassion9 жыл бұрын
Just made the front handles. They look good. I found for the first round of weave making the base I used 9.5 ft of cord and for the outermost weave I used 10 ft of cord.

Thank you! I think to attach it to the roll bar though I’m gonna get some 1” nylon strapping and buckles/clips. I dunno how the buckle parts might run on the paint but we shall see! It’s still a no sew option.

I messed around with the cobra weave and i found out if you use 2 different colors for the base lets say white as the edge and black in the center and do the same for for the second weave on it but make the white center and black on the edge and looks pretty sick

Thanks for the video very good I like being able to see what it looks like on the jeep and where you bolted them in. I want to do what you did but I dont want to bolt anything on the cord thats just me. I think I have seen washers that has a place to hook things on I will go to lowes to find them. Very cool jeep by the way.

If I want to make a 4ft 3 in paracord handle ,about how much wrap would you recomend me to use for it . I would love to make one for the back of my JK for people to grab on to and not the bar where they could easily let go . Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I like that the inners are NOT nylon web - that the 550 cord itself is at the load-bearing part where the fastener is. I must have gone through 8-12 replacement after market grab handles in about 5 years on my wife's jeep (counting front and rear). They all have that Velcro nylon webbing that wraps around the roll bar , that part is fine. Then there's the nylon web loop of the handle itself that goes through the webbing that is around the roll bar. It;s that freaking nylon web loop part that always fails. Like a dry-rot, or UV deterioration or something. I don't get how it can be UV when the top is up 90% of the time, or when the rest of the nylon webbing and other pouches and whatnot never fail or discolor, yet that freaking part at exactly the anchor point - the nylon web loop is the part that consistently fails every time, and always for some reason when only a slight pull (like when you lift up a little bit to rearrange ur butt). For some reason never had one fail while under full load of hoist someone up or down (thank God). Anyways, it always baffled me and pissed me off that the one particular spot continually fails. It's nice to see this thing is complete 550 cord through and through, and not nylon web at the fasting point. Thank you Sir!!!

Great video, and Nice lookin' Jeep! I'm going to make a set of these this weekend... Tell me if I'm thinking correctly. I'd like the base layer and the 2nd layer to be a single, un-welded piece. When I get to the end of the base layer (15:55 in this video), if I flip the piece over and tie the knots all the way back down... will that work?

At 9:00 when you melt join the paracord, will it hold up the weight of a heavy man? I'm concern about breaking apart while under stress... What do you think?
@BJLudski10 жыл бұрын
when you melt and connect them, its important that you put the melted part in the center of the cord. that way, when you do all the knots over it, it will take 90-99% of the stress off of the melted part. i have yet to have one break on me. and ive done many demonstrations of the handles holding people.

Fantastic video! Can't wait to give it a try. Please answer me this tho, I am having so much trouble with tire sizes. What exact so are those duratracs? And how much back spacing do you have, that's the exact look I want on my wrangler! Thanks in advance!
@BJLudski9 жыл бұрын
+motboy2 the tires are "nitto trail grapplers" and they are 37x12.5x17 and the wheels are 4.5" backspacing with 1.5" spacers. this set up puts a lot of stress on your axle components, for more info or questions. feel free to message us on facebook.com/blackwidowjk

Hey there! Just scrolling through the comments here and I saw a fellow in need :P I always buy mine from here: www.amazon.com/TOUGH-GRID-750lb-Green-Paracord-Parachute/dp/B00CJICDSS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500733559&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=tough+grid&psc=1 They treat me very well, their cord is great. It is 750 cord, but it'd not any bigger than the typical 550 Hope this helped!

@BJLudski10 жыл бұрын
id say its about 160-170ft for a set of all 6 handles and a key fob. i usually do 2 100ft colors per set and end up with some extra.
