I see the covered a bit here on KZfaq. "How to make my exhaust pop" and I see people pushing the idea that you need a "burble tune" which is inaccurate. And is actually not great for your car. When making your car pop. there's really just a few things you need to do. now, I can only speak for these newer Subaru WRX and STIs, but all you need is a not stock exhaust so you can actually hear it. and a manual transmission. It's very likely possible to do in a standard. But I would imagine much much more complicated.

1. after market exhaust
2. manual transmission
3. rev match while down shifting
4. hard acceleration pushing in clutch a fraction of a second before letting off gas. legit a fraction of a fraction. it's hard to explain. but you'll get it.
5. just rev up to 3.5k to 4k rpms a couple times with the clutch engaged.
and you'll get those nice juicy pops.
