Finally! How to make your video more cinematic. This was shot with the Sony A7iii with the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. I hope this can help you with family, travel, or any type of videos that you are trying to make.
Thanks to my brother Charles for being my subject and helping me out.
Enjoy!

Do not use bars over video for that look. Setting sequence resolution of the video with reduced height, is better than using bars. I generally use 870 as height instead kf 1080 If you put bars instead, your video will be 16-9. It will look normal on 16-9 display but if you play it on wider display, it will have bars on left and right as well. Which means it isn't widescreen friendly even if it looks wide on non-wide screens😁 Cropping sequence resolution directly, makes it adjustable to any screen and bars are applied automatically. Too much lengthy comment. Ik. Thanks for reading.

I like Tam ron for the value and flexibility. I think on a full frame, you can get the out of focus back ground with a 2.8. But whatever helps you tell a better story.

Can you explain in more depth about the big 3 triangle…how it applies to shooting outside on a sunny day, or winter , or shooting at night….and how that play on the type of lens you use. im a beginner videographer\cinematographer, i understand lighting is everything and exposure, when it comes to photography, but how do you do it on the fly out when filming
@ChaseCharifa
@ChaseCharifa 2 жыл бұрын
this is a very complicated question. You need to learn where your camera best performs. Find the lowest iso with the best dynamic range, then depending on what 60 or 24 fps, use the 180 shutter rule , lastly lower your aperture to its most wide open setting. There are times to stop down (higher aperture number) depending on the story you will tell. If you are shooting outside, you will most likely need an ND filter to control exposure, when it comes to weather or time of day, you will need to adjust you white balance depending on the mood you want to tell your story. At night, i would try to make sure you have lights or expose properly.

Chase Charifa there is no need to rush! Take your time haha. I just bought the Sony a7 iii and want to learn more about filmmaking. I had problems with setting up my white balance tho. My base wb is 5500! However when i filmed indoor it was too orange, the question is how much do i have to scale it down in order to cool it proberly.
@ChaseCharifa
@ChaseCharifa 5 жыл бұрын
@@jackiewong4311 for sure! If you are just starting out, just put your white balance to auto. You can start experimenting by going indoors and outdoors. The rule of thumb is that the more tungsten or orange your image looks, lower your white balance. If the image looks to blue or cool, raise it. I would make sure you have a reference point such as a white card. For weddings, we use the subjects skin tones as a reference.

Wow! I learned a lot from this video. I've got a question. My camera is Canon 80D. Available video formats are MOV. and MP4. But, using the MOV format would only give me 30fps. MP4 format in my 80D is up to 60fps. In editing, could I still utilize MP4 if I want sorts of Slo-Mo or should I only stick to MOV. ? Advance thanks.
@ChaseCharifa
@ChaseCharifa 5 жыл бұрын
I would stick to .mp4 so you can get 60fps. That way you can slow down your footage to 40% of the original and have nice slow motion. Check out my New York video I shot that with Canon 80d. Thanks for watching! PLease like and subscribe.

Jonathan Asfaw if you use Final Cut Pro, it automatically conforms everything to your timeline. If you set your time line to 4K, then the 1080 footage will be scaled up, or by 200% approximately. If you set you timeline at 1080, then make sure you set your clips to fit.

Thank you so much 👍🏼. Have you used a ND-Filter?
@ChaseCharifa
@ChaseCharifa 5 жыл бұрын
@@fatjoni8828 yes for videos its great to maintain shutter speed double your frame rate and also you are able to get the depth of field with a low aperture without blowing out your image. For photos, it can help you achieve slower shutters that give you light trails for car tail lights or stars.
