Any guidelines/expectations to allow/adjust for heart rate training/pacing when in hotter/humid environments? Example, during a run yesterday it wasn't overly hot (low 70s F) but 100% humidity and was having a hard time trying to keep the heart rate down without feeling like was much more than a walking pace.

Work full time here and have 5 kids. Just get used to training very early, at lunch, or late in the evenings when everything else is done. Some of the long bricks in the colder months are a bit rough, and sleep is often in short order, but I make it work. When the summer comes the long bricks, finishing around midnight are done in almost full daylight, and these sessions are a real reward for the hard work.

3:20 if I may add some advice: Schedule your day/days off as part of your plan. Use it for additional stretching, equipment maintenance or house related work to avoid feeling of “empty run”. Recovery is important to achieve progress.

Thank you so much Mark for the thoughtful response to my question. I don't have much race experience so part of my issue may be I really do enjoy training just for the sake of training. Something I'll have to keep in mind and if you have any further tips for making adjustments, would really appreciate.

re: FTP test. If you use a ramp test it won't blow up your training and you can fairly easily do endurance work as soon as you recover from the test. Might want to incorporate a regular ramp test at the end of each recovery week - or consistently into your overall plan so the results test-to-test are comparable

#gtncoachescorner Many videos talking about how to balance training and job with regular working hours. However, what about the people that working shifts, that means that sometimes you working in the mornings, some in the evenings and others at night and also at the weekends. How do you balance that? Without long weekends for rest and irregular sleeping schedule. Thank you in advance.

#gtncoachescorner great video guys... I have a Q... How can I manage or implement gym sessions to Triathlon training? Is it fundamental? Or only for a period of time?... Also is there an ideal diet or should we go with personal percepcion? Thanks GTN

With pools finally being open in my area and swimming being by far my weakest discipline, I've been doing a swim focused training block for the last six weeks. It has worked wonderfully with my strength and technique vastly improved, however, an unforeseen side effect has been reduced flexibility in my shoulders. What are some stretches to do post swim or in standalone stretching sessions to help with this? #gtncoachescorner

#gtncoachescorner my dilemma is how to train for Triathlon when you're a specialist. I'm a time crunched cyclist, and time swimming or running is time off the bike...but I do want to do some tri. I know this is unlikely to be hard and fast, but interested in perspective. Thanks

Coaches Corner Question: Cycling and running are both of equal importance to me so I try to do a speed, threshold and endurance session of each in one week, but that leaves me with little recovery or rest meaning I'm not hitting the targets. How do I structure a plan which incorporates all the key sessions for running and cycling, plus recovery? Thanks a lot!

I haven't raced in a few years due to work, family, covid demands and unfortunately have spent too much time off the bike. As a result have developed some anxiety about getting the bike back on the road bearing in mind the quality of road and cycle paths in the UK aren't the best in parts, nor are the quality or drivers. Any advice on how to get back out there and regain confidence?

#gtncoachescorner I wanted to expand on this video. Do you have any tips regarding training for a 70.3 when you work 12hr shifts? (days & nights). I would love a weekly routine but with different days/nights each week over a 5x week period, it's awkward firstly to fit the sessions in and secondly to not be super tired after 3 or 4 days of shifts. I'd love to hear any advice. 🙂

#gtncoachescorner I'm participating in IM 70.3 Santa Cruz in September and will follow that up with IM 70.3 La Quinta 12 weeks later. As an mid-pack age grouper who uses a intermediate 12-week plan, how best should I handle the training time in between? Assuming Santa Cruz goes well, should I take a recovery week and pick up the plan in week 2 or would you advise a different strategy? Thank you!

#gtncoachescorner Great video guys! I've been able to draft a really great plan to improve my running in all aspects, be it time, volume or the running technique in itself after looking at multiple videos from your channel. However, I do struggle when there are multiple sharp turns in my run course. Sometimes these turns are just plain old U-turns, or it could be a turn around the corner of a road. When I run through such sharp turns, I do not immediately feel anything, but after I complete my run, I feel terrible pain in my knees. And I noticed that this happens whenever the run has sharp turns, otherwise there's absolutely no problem at all. I know that my foot placement and balancing of weight has something to do with this when I run into a curve. Could you please explain how this could be improved, and how can I tackle them?

I did my first triathlon today which was an Olympic distance. I made my expected goal pace/time but once I got out of the water I felt disoriented and a little wobbly. Is this common for newcomers to the sport? If so, what should I do next time so I’m not losing precious minutes in transition while I get my bearings before mounting the bike?

HI Team! I live in a very hilly area so most of my runs are not at a fast pace due to this. However I am wanting to run a sub 1:25 Half marathon (my pb is 1:28), do you think this will be harder without flat roads to do threshold/intervals at a decent clip, or do I just need to focus more on HR than pace?

Hey #gtncoachescorner I've been really focusing on my pool swimming, but I am still uncomfortable doing flip turns because I either end up with no breath left to kick off and start my next stroke or I get tons of water up my nose. Any advice on breathing/preparing for a flip turn?

Hi Guys, #gtncoachescorner I've started this year using the maffetone training method. At first i was seeing weekly improvements in both my bike and run. However after about 6 weeks i took a week off the training and several weeks later i still cannot seem to match my previous pace. I currently run and bike in one hour sessions due to time constraints except on a Sunday when i do my long run. What do i need to do to get over this plateau and start seeing the gains i was making previously?

I use a wheel on trainer, wahoo kickr snap. Can I use the axel from the kickr out on the road or do I need to put the bikes original axel in each time I take it out? During the week I'm most consistent when I can do workouts on the trainer with a long ride outdoors on the weekend.

I’ve always been told to use your bike’s original axle on the road and to always grease the threads.
