How to Manual Swap your car, BMW E30 - Part 1

5 жыл бұрынWe finally get around to swapping Rob's E30 from an automatic to a manual transmission. This is part one and will show you all the major components required to convert to a manual transmission, as well as show you the steps involved to remove the current automatic parts from your car.
This process is shown using an E30 as an example, however many other vehicles will be similar and this video can be used as education/guidance to understanding the process required for the swap.

Great to see you guys back been 11 months :/ keep it consistent and the channel will grow greatly :D Anyone thinking of doing the manual conversion try use the 260/265 gearbox as they are bullet proof, you can use the 240 but make sure its for the M20 as they made a 240 for the m40/m42 but the gearbox sits at a different angle and the input shaft to the spigot bearing is a different size.

4:45 my understanding was the opposite. When you press the clutch pedal the pressure plate releases from the friction plate so you can change gears. When you release the clutch pedal all three pieces spin together again.

Yes, that’s if you’re in gear. He was assuming that the car is in neutral when giving that explanation.

One part missing from the list is - Part No. 11761716360 Bracket exhaust pipe This further supports the mid-pipe exhaust. The bracket with the automatic transmission is different.

Hey buddy As I was removing the gear shifter seal, that whole that selects gears came out.. you perhaps have any idea what damage could I have done cause now it won’t select gears anymore

Hello, how are you? I swapped the m50 with a getrag 260 box and I needed to have an m40 cob motor with the same box. When installing the engine, the box went further back because of the engine, which is longer, I adapted the transmission, but now I am stuck in the medudas of the selector rods that were long and I cannot get them where I live. And I would like to know if you know what size the shorter rods have to adapt the ones it has and so I stay more focused on the selector system, please, I would appreciate it, greetings, very good videos

I have a question about the transmission cooling?? I currently have a 4 speed auto in my 89’ 325i, and I plan to swap it ASAP, however the lines for the auto trans cooler are leaking, I want to fix this, but would it be in vain for a manual swap? Or is there a separate cooler for it? Maybe it doesn’t have one?.. thank you for any help!! Great video!

So normaler the manual transmission E30s don’t come with transmission coolers, that’s for Auto only. So yes, in my experience you don’t need to retain any of the cooking components and it would be a waste to try and fix it before swapping to a manual.

About how much did all of those parts cost. I have a getrag transmission(needs to be rebuilt), flywheel, clutch, and driveshaft. All for my e28 and im 16 and im hoping that after buying all the rest of the parts and rebuild the trans it only sets me back $1500
