Hello. I have 1 question about brake pads. I changed rear brake pads but constantly have annoying sound( like metal to metal but rumbling ). Mechanical guy sey this is normal because its pads is new. I dont believe so much but i must to ask you ,it's normal or not( sound from brakes pads)!?. Thanks
@X5Overland
@X5Overland 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for the first few days I'd say its pretty normal to have some sound, It should go away over time. If it seems like its making more noise than you think it should, try having your rotors resurfaced.

One little note for next time: the pads have to slide in and out (braking and releasing brake power). It's best to put just a *touch* of anti-seize grease on the interface between the caliper holder and the pad, where the pad's guides extrude on either side, to guide the pad at the right place. Not too much, you don't want it to smudge the pad or the disk. Also, a manual tool for actuating the mechanical side of the electro-mechanical brake (clockwise) instead of a power tool. You both risk hurting yourself (yep yep yep) and doing damage to the small gear in which you put your TORX 40 bit to turn... A ratchet or T-40 screwdriver and manully turn... It 's a lot of turns, but not worth the risk of damage to speed things up with a power tool.

No need to remove the motor. Remove the connector and apply slight pressure with a clamp. Then attached a 9v battery to the motor with clip leads. If the motor runs then strains, reverse the clip leads. As the motor runs tighten the clamp slowly to retract the piston. When the motor stops, you're done. Just did mine and it's a piece of cake. After pads are replaced, with the engine off, pump pedal slowly and in a few strokes it will be firm. No need to bleed as the fluid circuit was not opened. Cycle the P brake a few times and you're done.

You Sir are a life saver, had my car all jacked up new pads in and couldn’t work out why the piston wouldn’t just push back like the fronts. Did a bit of Googling then went out and bought a caliper wind back tool which still didn’t work after a lot of messing around (the circle plate didn’t fit my vehicle) and found several videos on YT talking about using software to retract the piston but eventually found your video. Thanks to you the car is now back on its wheels and usable again

G'day Nick. First up, nice video. Good camera work, clear and to the point. Refreshing, after battling to watch so many You tube vids that are - basicslly unwatchable. Thanks. My question - you have chosen to mechanically wind the worm screw back in, with your drill. Cool. The manufacturer (via a diag. tool) suggests retracting it electrically. Do you think, rather than unbolting the motor, it would be possible to unclip the wiring to the motor, and apply a voltage to its terminals, to achieve this result - without (a) having the diag. stuff, or (b) having the various torx bits etc. that you have used in your vid? Any idea what DC voltage it would need? Thanks mate, from Australia!
@X5Overland
@X5Overland 3 жыл бұрын
There have been several comments suggesting that very thing. I have not tried it myself but I can't see why it wouldn't work. It seems so much easier as well. I would assume that it would take a 12v DC power source but you could always start with a lower voltage and work your way up =) Best of luck!

Thanks for the video. I did this but I have a problem , I saw that you removed the motor housing pretty easy, just pulled on it, I had to pry it open, was pretty hard to take off, the bolts also, there was a lot of white dust coming off. Did all things good but now I can't reassembly it, that o-ring is a pain in the ass, the housing doesn't get past it and I also see that the o-ring is pretty loose.. tried lubing everything up with silicone grease but nothing. Any suggestions?

There’s an easier and safer way to release the parking brake. Just disconnect the electrical connection, take a 9 or 12 volt small battery with two cables and connect them to the receiver pins on the parking brake module. This way you avoud any potential damage by removing the module from the caliper. You can reverse the polarity if the piston starts to come out.

I find this way easier. You’re literally removing two bolts and rotating a screw mechanism that drives the piston. It’s more simple than finding a 12V battery and wiring it up. If you got far enough to remove the caliper you probably have the tools to manually release the piston.

I know this video is a saver but will the piston not retract if you just switch the vehicle on and release the brake electronically? Or does it not retract enough. I've also found that instead of a c-clamp , a wood clamp is less harsh on parts. Great video though.

My car is a Renault Scenic. Has an electronic parking brake. I accidentally flattened the battery, and hand brake jammed on ( think a safety feature).. My grandson an apprentice mechanic, used a scanner , but could not release the handbrake. It gave a message " right rear brake fault". We think the cylinder has jammed that one on. Going to get the car moved to his garage, tomorrow,.Thanks for the video, most informative.

Question? After you wine the motor to allow for the piston to push in, do you have to loosen it or did you just put the ebrake actuator back on without doing anything?
@X5Overland
@X5Overland 3 жыл бұрын
Im not sure I understand your question. After you wind the motor back to push the piston in, all you have to do is complete the brake job and then pull the e-brake switch as usual. It will take a little longer for the brakes to engage but they will eventually. Hope this answers your question! Best of luck
