@Troy as a professor of Events there is a history behind the Tech & Hospitality Rider. It’s not only to make the musician comfortable. The rider system is for the safety of the artist too. Now, I do agree with you. Some artist are wasteful with their riders and take away the true essence of the purpose of a tech and hospitality rider. There was one particular artist who waste over 4 trays of food. We had to throw out some and donate some of the food. I have so many stories for you. Something does need to to change.

Ahh! I can school y’all for once: Riders and musicians come from touring. Literally traveling all night and showing up at the venue and making sure that there’s specific gear and equipment, specific foods, and necessities (and some perks/comforts) are there for you so you can relax/turn up backstages then perform. It’s also a compliance test and a gauge for whether or not you’ll be treated professionally throughout the night. Some can be seen as excessive, but if I’m bringing people to your venue and making you money - you make sure I have what I need.

Wonderful show and very inspiring for entrepreneurs. The question at the end about Diddy not getting the reverence that Jay has received was particularly interesting. My thoughts on that are the street rumors about the million dollar price that was put on Tupac’s head. That cannot be underestimated.

1:05:00 the rider comes from “technical riders” that musicians/bands would send regarding what they needed for their performances. ie. number of mics, amps, instruments, etc. Unfortunately it has been taken advantage of and turned into sometimes ridiculous asks. LOL!

DIDDY and Baby aren’t getting their flowers as much bc they understood the game and they played it well, however, in the black community we do tend to choose sides and know NOTHING about business. So we “hate” what we don’t know or understand. It’s a vicious cycle that continues to stunt growth.

Jay’s not with the BS, he’s about his business and he’s doing it with class. Sean (Puff) is not as respected bc he’s still out here being wild, appearing to not know himself… trying to show up “on the level” of what black culture expects to see in terms of success. I respect him for what he has built, but it’s giving unattractive, and a lack of confidence. There’s a difference.
