Great ideas for what is often a major struggle for many kids. Alas I have discovered my daughter freezes when there is a timer and it causes her stress and anxiety, and developed a fear of math which has taken about 2 years to get over. I have also recently realized that she cannot picture things in her head, like fingers on a hand and adding some more, or an abacus or ten frame. I am wondering if it is a skill I need to teach her or if that is just how her brain is wired.

It would be a great skill to work on because it is so instrumental in achieving any kind of goals. To make a plan, one has to be able to imagine it or picture it first. I’m sure she can already, just like when arriving at an airport and looking for a family member you know will be there to greet you. You have an image of them in your brain and look to see if any face in the crowd matches it. Transposing it to different areas like goal setting or math is something not just kids need to work on, but adults too :)

Hello, do you have any suggestions for adults ? Math has always been one of my weaker subjects but I really want to hone in on my skills. Any tips anything will help me. I don’t know how to get them to stick in my brain. Thank you in advance

I think the abscus translates to mental math faster than manipulatives.

@@ourhouse yes I have volume 1&2. It seems to go in perfect step order. And the website has games you can play for volume 1 and you go as slow or as fast as needed. It’s going well for my nine year old It does as the “math facts that stick” books do. And go number by number doing addition and subtraction with it.

Yes, they can be. These are alternatives or review tools if needed.

@@ourhouse Thank you. How long would you say it’d take an average to advanced 6 year old to learn the Math Facts with the RC Math Fact Cards plus an abacus before he is ready for Saxon 54? Thanks again.
@ourhouse
@ourhouse 3 жыл бұрын
@@JLMABIO It would be fine for it to take about a year. Most kids aren't mature enough for Saxon 54 until around age 7-8.

@@ourhouse You've said the student must be a good reader before starting Saxon Math 54. By which book title should student be (roughly) in the "RC Reading List" before starting Saxon Math 54? Thank you.
