Well that was easier than forking out for an expensive plugin to do the same job!

While you’re right. In mixing, you often level-match the reference track to your mix to better assess tonal balance and instrumentation. In mastering, you aim to match the loudness of your master to the reference track. This involves adjusting the levels and processing, sometimes using a limiter, to achieve a comparable loudness without sacrificing overall audio quality. It's crucial to consider both relative levels and loudness when using reference tracks in mixing and mastering. In short, when mixing lower the reference to match your song. When mastering increase your song levels to match the reference loudness.

Appreciate the visualizations that you add to these videos : it makes the tutorials so much more easy to understand. You must be a pedagogy teacher or something... :)

Thank you I’m really happy that you enjoy the content with visualizations, it takes a bit more time to make but same for me I understand better when I visualize it! My goal is really to explain the easiest & simplest way as I can that even a 6 year old could understand. I feel like the message is so much clearer when you think that way 👌🙂

Yeah…simple and concise. Setting reference track levels is something that a lot of folk struggle with and this is a perfect example of how to do it quickly. Cheers ✌🏻

Yeah I see a lot of people trying to mix with their reference track at different volume, this is simple but really important to be able to reference correctly during mixing. Glad you liked it! Cheers 🙏

Why not lower the volume of the reference track instead? Makes more sense to me that way. Great tip anyway!
@AbletoninaMinute-ci3qq

Because I haven’t mentioned but the reference track was already at -6db, so I like to match my track around this volume to facilitate the process of mixing and leave some headroom for the mastering stage. That’s why I like to match the volume of my reference track but that is just a preference on how I like to start a mix :) but you could definitely adjust the volume of your reference to match your track 👍
