How To Measure Copper Pipe Size Easily-Full Tutorial

In this video, I show you and tell you how to measure copper pipe size easily. If you have a piece of copper pipe and want to measure it's inner diameter or the length of it, I show you exactly how to do it with the instructions throughout the video. The process is really simple and you basically need a measuring tape or a ruler. Some pieces of copper pipe actually have their diameter stamped on the outside, so be sure to take a look first because it can save you from actually having to measure it with a measuring tape or a ruler.

This is only helpful if you have a cut piece of pipe.

Not helpful for measuring the diameter of an already plumbed pipe such as my hose bib and water supply line. Trying to find out if I can measure around the outside of my of pipe with a flexible tape ( used in sewing) and if that measurement can be converted to the pipe size or not.

Divide the circumference by 3.14 then look up a chart. 3/4 isn't .75 it's like .86 OD. I still have to refer to Google

Wow u must made u copper pipe to smoke out of and i did not know eglue had pipes but if pipes already hook up how do u find the side of the oppening if opening is close

Majority of people would like to know how to measure when it's connected to something like a hot water heater.

You can't. Measure it when it disconnected or by looks

That was very helpful. I don't know if anyone else covered this and I didn't know how to do it. So it's the top inner dimension of the pipe to the bottom inner dimension? If my pipe is 1/2 inch and I need to replace the existing shut off valve, do I buy a 3/4" shark bite valve to go over the 1/2" fitting so it slides over? Thanks!

No, you use 1/2" for all of it.
