Man, whatever happened to just chasing a tire? It seems as if I need to have a degree in engineering in order to change a tire these days! Look, I get it, things are not the same anymore, but I just long for the days of change and go! I do appreciate this video...it's super helpful. This is important to know because one might think that the guys over at "Tires Plus" would consider tire off set this since they are a huge tire chain, but they don't!

cars are just an extension of engineering, and a vehicle is a machine that is a result of many, many different measurements. always was, always will be. engineering progressed, and measurements and dimensions got more exacting as technology improved, and as a result, sometimes you need to know some specific measurements to make sure a part fits correctly.

What happens to the measurement when the tire is about an inch wider than the rim? When measuring for the centerline? And the second measurement
@e.j.johnson7366 Жыл бұрын
what do you mean by "the second measurement"?

If I got from 40 offset to 50 would that affect anything on my car?
@txreal26 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I understand the conversion. The face = 6 and 5/6 but when converted to mm, the number is bigger than the Center number. Did I miss something? Thanks.

Been putting off learning this forever and now have a DyMag CF Rear Motorcycle Rim I'm trying to sell... no askers of offset but NOW I'll be ready when one DOES ask. Good Stuff! BTW, do I convert from inches to mil... JUST KIDDING. Hate to see/hear myself recorded... have learned when dictating texts that I don't speak NEARLY as well as I think I do... another skill for me to work on! Thanks for taking the time to keep it simple for us!

I'm sorry to keep bothering you, but you are the only one out there that seems to know what he is talking about. I figured you would not post videos if you did not want to help people. The offset I measured was ET35, but it says inside the wheel 42. What's going on? The wheel is aftermarket and has spokes that curve out pretty good. Would that be the problem
@KiesMotorsports8 жыл бұрын
If it has some concave, I assume that's where the issue could be, but it's hard to say. I would go by the stamped offset inside the wheel. Do those rims fit your car?
@KiesMotorsports8 жыл бұрын
+Rob Bullard also try this: www.audiforums.com/forum/audi-a6-9/2-7-t-wheel-offset-6337/
@andyussery84956 жыл бұрын
When you take the first measurement, is the set resting on the rim or the tire? If it has spokes that stick out beyond the edge of the tire then there is your problem.

I have a question hopefully you can answer. I have 15x7 rims with ET 10 stamped on the rim. I am looking to go to 17x7 with ET of 10 to 12 will this cause any problems? FYI these are only for the rear.
@KiesMotorsports7 жыл бұрын
A lot of the answer to your question has a lot to do with what car you have. If you go online and do a search for what size rims will fit your car, you should find some good information on it

Hey bro great video! I am gonna bother you by asking a few questions lol. Well I have a BMW 3 series F-30 sedan its a 320d. (Not sure you get it in the states). Anyway I am thinking of upsizing my wheels and tyres. So I found a website which will deliver original BMW wheels at my place. So coming to the main question, my current wheels are 17" BMW 392 wheels 7.5Jx17 ET37 front and back. Now I have liked a set of wheels which are 19" BMW 641M wheels which are Front Wheels: 8.5Jx19 ET27 and Rear Wheels: 9Jx19 ET29. So there is a great deal of difference in the current ET and the new wheels. Will that cause any major problems as far as handling and driving is concerned? Also BMW recommends for the F30 sedan maximum wheel width to be 8.0 in the front and 8.5 in the back. Now i have really liked the new wheels, but should go for them? Or will it permanently damage my car? Thanks in advance!
@KiesMotorsports7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for your message. That's a tough one. For me, I don't know if I would go that big in the front. You have to keep your fender in mind, especially when turning or if you decide to lower your car. You also need to keep in mind the ET. Will the company you are buying them from be able to confirm if they will work? Sorry, I don't know 100%, so I don't want to tell you the wrong thing. Since those guys work with wheels day in and day out, I'm sure they should be able to help. If not, you may want to talk to another wheel company :)
@kunalmore52127 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks of the reply. No you're right, they did say that these wheels will be too wide for my car. Especially the front ones, I was hoping for a silver lining... lol because those wheels are actually designed for M3 & M4 so I guess they dont fit the regular BMWs... which is a shame really, BMW could actually benefit from increased revenues through their accessories division if the M wheels can be fitted on regular BMWs

I'm having a terrible time find new rims for my car. They have a big brake package and all the dealership's seem to be getting the offset wrong. The wheels on their now fit perfectly so I will measure them. One question:. What type of considerations do I have to make if I am putting a slightly bigger wheel on. My current wheels are 16", but I want to go to a 17"? Thanks
@KiesMotorsports8 жыл бұрын
Hi. What kind of car is it? I would check on forums to see what wheels other people put on the same car. 16s-17s you should be fine.
@KiesMotorsports8 жыл бұрын
+Rob Bullard once you go bigger, you have to worry about wheel rub and make sure your speedometer is accurate. I would research what people with the same car put on as a reference.

Hi Sorry it took me a while to read this. The car is an Audi A6 2001 2.7T. Huge front calipers. I believe my car is running a 35 offset right now so I think going a little lower on the 32 will help fit an extra inch. Opinion?

Offset is the dumbest thing ever created, backspacing makes way more sense and you can get the backspacing for your car and apply it to any rim. Offset is dependent on rim width, a +35 offset could be a factory looking wheel or the deepest dish you've ever seen, offset is absolutely useless.
@trevorb76455 жыл бұрын
Not really..that would mean the hub surface of rim would be three inches thick
