This is one method for interacting with cats who are/were feral and/or fearful. Covering them with a blanket makes them feel less vulnerable, and is less stressful. We only use this approach if what we need to do can't be accomplished using less invasive methods, like hiding medications in pill pockets/treats, or for procedures like pawdicures, which require some form of restraint.

It always surprises me at how small some Mamas are. They look average size until their partially grown kitten is nearby. Then you can really see the difference.

I'm so proud of Scotia. She's been through so much w just this 1 litter & has many reasons not to like humans, but she's also seen the good in them too. I'm glad she's shredding her feral card. She's deserves a wonderful home & a human to love her. 💕

Shelly , you're the best !!! What a great video. From Years of experience and remaining calm pays off. Thank you ! I'd like to apply this to my feral Lil Gray but I can't even get close to her and I'd hate to trap her. She needs flea treatment and ear treatment. So frustrating. This video is great even for our calm friends who dislike their nails trimmed and being medicated. Priceless. ❤Shelly !! Bravo 👏👏👏 PS.. I'm 71 and I've rescued kitties all my adult life .. I've learned soooo much in the years I've been following and supporting Tiny Kittens. I love you all, thank you for sharing your wealth of information and experience with us.

My cat is a former feral. She's very socialized to me and my friends now after 11 years, but you still can't reach toward her with an open hand from in front of her -- you have to first present the back of your hand, let her sniff it, and only after she gives the hand a little rub with her face will she let you pet her from in front. I think there's a lot of hope for Scotia with the right, patient, adopter.

I could have never imagined how to tackle medicating and claw trimming a feral cat. A feral mama picked us about 15 months ago to bring her litter of 4 to. At 5 months, we caught the kittens and adopted them. The day after their spay & neuters, we caught the mom. Adopted her too. Her claws were trimmed at her spay, and vaccines done then too. Haven't trimmed her claws myself yet. She was spayed 4 months ago... Hoping we can pet her someday! 😊

I’d like to say just how so amazing Shelly is with the most feral of feral cats.❤️👏🏻👏🏻🥰. I have watched her with the most extreme feral mamas like Scotia and Shelly is just so darn amazing and I surly do admire her so very much the things that she has to do and ensure too to help the feral cats and also to help them to heal and get better from whatever it may be that the ferals have to heal from. Shelly sure DOES ROCK when it comes to how she loves and cares for the ferals in he care and those that are outside too. Hugs to TK and Shelly always! God bless Sue M Florida, USA ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😺🙏🫶🏻😊😘🥰👍🏻❌⭕️❌⭕️

Scotia is a lot more tolerant about nail-trimming than my non-feral cat. I'm kind of at a loss how to do it because I average about 0-1 nail per week (and I make multiple attempts), as mine tries to whap me or bite me, then she hides her paws. Covering won't work for mine because she wouldn't be subdued about it. As it is, I only manage to basically get just the sharp tips off when I can (usually when she's half asleep but she's a light sleeper) because I have to be so quick about it. I did it a few times when she was a kitten and I never hurt her so I thought she would have gotten used to it but I guess not.

I'm not an expert, but I'm found that the best trimming tool is whichever one you can be the most comfortable & efficient with. Some people even use human nail clippers cause that's what they're most precise with.

Why are you trying to trim a feral kitty's nails? Seems like a needless activity that only terrorizes the cat and leaves you with new scars.

Scotia has made a lot of progress with liking/trusting humans, and they're hoping to socialize her and find an adopter for her. Not to mention cats can get ingrown claws or long claws can catch on things and get torn if you don't trim them.

Scotia is actually adapting to being inside and a vital part of losing the feral card is a nail trim. She also acts a lot better than my cat who's never been feral and a lot better than his reaction afterwards.
