You are not compassionate and caring! If you were you would not keep this moms cat in a state of stress all the time. This can not be good for her babies. This is just some cruel experiment!

This feral cat would have given birth outside. This isn’t an expirement. She’s weighing and checking the kittens which is an absolute necessity. Kittens of ferals can get all kinds of problems if not monitored.

A heartfelt thanks for all the blood, sweat and tears that goes into TK and it’s vital work. Berkeley is a beautiful cat and I hope she eventually turns in her wild card. The kittens are beautiful, a robust little bunch! Looking forward to seeing all 9 new kittens in a month or so, scampering wildly everywhere and wreaking havoc!

What a terrible place for this cat to be. They have no water and no litter box and not much food for her and she is feeding four kittens! I don’t think much of these people that are taking care of her! Maybe she would be better off on the streets!

There is a whole room that mom can access via the opening in the upper right corner of the screen. This space is to keep the kittens in a safe space and to help keep them warm.

Such a wonderful picture. It truly shows how gorgeously stunning Mama Berkeley is. So many new things for her too. Then adding in all the hormones and instincts, it is no wonder she is spicy. Plus she was quite elusive. Fortunately Miss Shelly is very experienced. I also think Mama B is enjoying her door dash instead of having to hunt. Time will tell what Berkeley wants.

Leave this place, you horrid wretch who provides me with food! If you’re really lucky, she’ll get used to the fact that you will be examining her kittens every day. But if not, it’s good that she and her kittens are healthy. I’m less surprised by how spicy she is, and more surprised that she hasn’t tried to move them. “OK, kids, we live in the litter box now.”

Sorry if this is dumb: is it necessary to weigh the babies? This clearly distresses the heck out of the mother. What's the harm in leaving them alone with her? If one dies, that's nature, too, though very sad. - Confused cat lover

Not only is it necessary to weigh the kittens to make sure they're thriving and getting enough nutrients, exposure to humans is the best way to desensitize Berkeley to their presence. Even if she can't be socialized and adopted and she goes back to her colony, she may need vet care in the future, and the more desensitized to humans she is, the less stressful that will be.
