Cool knot for a buckle where the tag is pulled 180 deg for tightening. As for the friction hitch on a standing line, I've done something similar for my kids tablets in the backseat but used a simple prussik for tightening. Hold the prussik and pull the tag to tighten, or pull the standing end to loosen. I find they slide easier and hold exceptionally well.

Thank you for this video! You simple explanation of the diamond knot solved an issue I was having and the sliding cinch knot has found a new home.

This is interesting as it's the opposite threading to a knot we use for tying bales: the knot tightens and holds the straw when re-binding an opened bale. Testing your threading method, the knot slips after tightening (using polypropylene baler twine). Threading the tale end the opposite way as we do, it tightens and holds fast. The addition of a release loop is novel however! This takes a self cinching knot and makes it very versatile - although I'd stick with our opposite threaded bale knot as it doesn't slip under tension. For tents, I'd always use a tautline with quick release bight: far quicker to tie and release for tarps.

I have allways needed to know how to make knots, but never have. Its kind of crazy when you think about it that in 16 over education their was never the time to learn something so useful to life.

Great idea and design. Like any other knot, it has places where it excels and others where a different knot is called for. Superior to a taightline for specific applications and yes, it will slip, but only if the knot isn't dressed properly before tension is applied. I waited to comment until I tried this knot in a variety of applications. Some mentioned the taughtline hitch after identifying the one time this knot slipped in the video. I've seen taughtline hitches slip before and for the same reason - knot needed to be properly dressed up before tension applied. Good job and great innovation. Keep thinking outside the box; thats how we improve.

Update. I can get it to slip when I form the 3 loops as you did at the beginning of the video (where u twist it twice to create the loops). But when I create the 3 loops using your 2nd method (laying one line over the other) the knot does not slip. If u examine the 3 loops carefully u will see that they are different (ie look at how the middle loop is formed) when created. Thanks again. Last update…I stand corrected. If I clinch the knot up really tight the adjusted loop will not slip no matter which method is used to create the 3 loops. Time to Adjust my dose of medication!!

Practiced and cataloged! Don’t know how many buckles I popped in the field and fussed with tying something up at a fixed length. I can definitely use this, and I think I will incorporate it into a a primitive backpack design. It’s great for slings of any sort for quick adjustments. I find in the field, there’s no true comfort length to anything. As you get moving and thing shift around and settle in, an adjustment on the fly is crucial for comfort and weight distribution. I made one with the pull tab portion as a loop with a hangman’s noose as a stopper knot for a simple functional and decorative look. Think I may play around with some flat knot designs for sleek comfort. Great work!

I love creative ideas like this. Thinking through what I have used before, a truckers hitch works just as well, with a 2:1 mechanical advantage and an easy release from a slipped half hitch. I wonder if this will knock it off the pedestal.

Try the taut line hitch knot.

The initial knot is similar to the Reever Bend except the twists here are added to one line instead of shared between both. That is what’s allowing for the slip and adjustment 👍

I incorporated the twist into a bowline loop, so it holds the crossover pattern.

basically a 'lapp bend' - way easier to tie

Pretty neat, literally. I've been trying to figure out how to do exactly this for quite some time (making a guitar strap entirely out of paracord). Last week, I accidentally discovered the trucker's hitch does exactly this as well, if you don't mount anything to the lower portion after tying the first loop. Going to have to test this out and see. Insane how difficult it's been to find anything on the web on this topic.

Hey I think this would be pretty good to tie the internal waistline cord for pyjama/scrub type pants, right? Those things are always coming loose, and a mini trucker's hitch feels like overkill.

In the example with the black and red paramax, you thread the black through the two windows and then loop it over the red cord's working end, then thread it out the first window. If instead you looped the black cord around the red's standing end, and threaded it back out through both windows, first I find this works at least as good but I haven't tested it much, and second, now it is an enhanced sheetbend where instead of the red wraping around once, it wraps around twice, and crosses itself twice. I don't know proper knot names or anything but this seems like a lead on what it might be called

When you tied the knot the second time with your figure eight loop and you passed the loop over top Itself instead of twisting it, did you not just change the way the knot it tie. Right? I like the idea. I’ll defiantly Use it. Just curious if it’ll act differently if you twist the loop vs placing the look overtop itself. The difference can be seen between 1:05 and 3:00

Taught-line friction knot is much faster and better. I use the taught to hold a gazebo down and its a great and very simple adjustble knot

The knots were tied differently

Unfortunately this knot slips for me. In your video @ 1:53 you even said it (albeit a little bit) does. When I pull hard enough on the loop as u did it will slip all the way to the end of the short pull line. Maybe this adjustable loop will work in very light duty situations.
