Thanks for sharing these tips on modifying your bench pin, this is how I learned to work on jewelry using notches in a bench pin but modern jewellers that I work with kind of laugh it off... Its so useful though!

Thanks for these very usefull tips on your bench pin. Here is mine: 1 drill a small vertical hole right through your pin on your favorite side. 2 insert (from under) your piece of fine metal wire you're working on 3 as you rotate your wire with your other hand (from under) just polish the protruding tip with, your favorite file, or favorite grit sand paper and get : a perfectly 360 degree rounded tip! (specially great for earring post) Alternative B : insert your balled-up wire from above and repeat 1,2,3 GB Canada

Thanks for this very helpful video! Quick question: would a modified larger sized bench pin with a narrower tang have enough support to saw and work on? Or must the width of the tang and bench pin be equal? I have a beginners combo bench pin and anvil set up. The bench pin is a little narrow for me and I'd like to get a slightly wider one but the slot to hold the tang is only a little over 1 1/2". I hope this makes sense! Thanks in advance!

Hi Yaz - Thanks for watching my video. I've worked on bench pins that are wider than the tang that goes in the holder. They hold up fine. It's nice to have a bigger bench pin to work on . Go for it!

Thanks! I twisted 2 pairs of two round wires together. Each pair was twisted in opposite directions. Then I forged them square. Made two matching rings and soldered them together.

How do you get the slop out of the bench mate peg ? I swapped and regret it now ! Every up motion file stroke or movement up and it has slop no matter on how you shim or adjust ? I might go back to the proper fixed peg ! thank you !

Hi Oleg - Usually the two screws (side and bottom) are enough to tighten the bench pin and control any movement. However, some of the bench pin replacements they sell are a little big for the GRS bench pin holder. When I use these and saw them down, I leave them a little thicker and that helps to keep it steady. All the best to you!
