Have joined silversmithing class 2 times a week and have just bought a Dremel. Need to polish my pieces at home and your help and advice is just what I was looking for. Have bought the micro dremel as I am a "granny" now and a little scared of tools. I will upgrade when I know what I am doing! Many many thanks. I bought your first book after seeing some of your videos. Great teacher!

I loved this so much! I recently purchased a Dremel, it‘s my first polishing tool and I was too scared to use it and had no clue which polishing bits to get. This helped me a lot! Plus: I love the jewelry shown here. The ring with the winter tree scenario? So pretty. And the little house pendant? Absolutely cute.

Hi Terri! Happy to hear you've found this video helpful. Unfortunately we don't have a recommendation for a dust collector. We would recommend search for "bench top dust collector" in your favorite search engine. We do sell a Smoke/Fume Absorber, it is best used near your soldering area. What do you recommend using for getting a mirror finish on completely flat pieces? I have some flat pieces that originally had a mirror finish but got some minor scratches. I tried the 1 micron spiral wheels, but they can't remove the scratches. I then tried the 6 micron wheels. These removed the scratches. After removing the scratches with the 6 micron wheels, I used the 1 micron ones, but I could not get the original mirror finish.
@beaducation
@beaducation 9 жыл бұрын
Hi, To get closer to a mirror finish I work through these sanding papers: www.beaducation.com/zen_products/5402-wet-dry-sanding-paper-mixed-grit-pack. To really reach the mirror finish you need a buffing wheel and a compound like rouge. We don't sell those product, but here is a vid I found that talks about them: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/faiUg8R2z7m8p58.html.

Great video....Ive watched it many times! I work in sterling silver metal clay...when I have a scratch I don't seem to be able to remove scratch with silicone wheels and if I use a strong sandpaper then I am left with a brushed finish that I can't rid of with the silicone wheels and radials....any suggestions? Thanks! Margot
@beaducation
@beaducation 7 жыл бұрын
Hummmm, that is a tough one. If the scratch is deep enough, it will be hard to buff out. I am surprised that silicone wheels or radials are not buffing it back to a nice brighter finish. Are you sure you are using the lightest grit silicone wheels at the end? Some are rougher than others and you need to kinda work through the grits in order. You can't go straight from brushed finish to the finest grit, you should use them one by one to get to the that smooth finish. I hope that makes sense :)
@Sandyhardydesign
@Sandyhardydesign 7 жыл бұрын
I work in Clay as well and the silicone seems to "muck up" technical term...with material… I usually start with a fresh disk or refresh The surface of the silicone disc with a rougher sandpaper

When removing excess solder, should I use all 3 (80, 320 & 600) sandpaper?
@beaducation
@beaducation Жыл бұрын
80 might be a little more aggressive than necessary to start, but the concept is correct - you need to go through a series of low to high number grits. The lower number does the heavy lifting and then following up with increasingly higher number grits works the surface back to smooth.
