How to Observe The Ceiling While a Baby Grand Is Being Moved
@ChucklesKeys11 жыл бұрын
The first thing removed should be the pedal lyre. NEVER rest a grand on the pedal lyre. Grands that size weight about 800 pounds......

New title.THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD NOT MOVE A BABY GRAND! HOLY $#!&!

It would be very nice to move the camera so we could see more of the piano moving and less of the ceiling. Ceiling hasn't moved one bit!
@lamorlayefrance11 жыл бұрын
There is nothing wrong with this move. Using the lyre is very standard procedure for tipping pianos onto the skidboard - especially if board is already resting on dolly. 9 footers are too heavy for such a method, but most other pianos can handle that.

This is the standard way to move a grand. If the lyre is weak, or the screws stripped out, THEN you would remove the lyre. I've moved thousands of grands in exactly the same fashion, as have those who've gone before me. Most of the negative comments on this video are by trolls who've probably never moved so much as a couch.

This troll has moved many pianos, NONE OF THEM by the lazy man's way of tipping over on the lyre, which weakens the pedal support structures more and more each time the instrument is moved that way. i worked for 9 years with a real legend in the piano trade (1901-1995) and we were taught ALWAYS to remove the lyre before removing any legs.

Vince and all the areas that I've been doing this the only time we remove the lid when the piano is being put into long-term storage or if it is a model that doesn't allow it to sit on the board squarely

Well said, sir, thank you

Hey Boys when putting the book under the Lyre try lifting it from the Bass side, it's much lighter.

And that's a smaller one... They seem very skilled and experienced.

When removing the first leg and setting it on the board, how do avoid crushing the player piano drawer ?
@rayjbenet11 жыл бұрын
At 1:14 they put something under the far leg - what was that? And then at about 2:20, it looks like the guy just leans on that side of the piano to rock it up. What am I not seeing?

You can pretty much hear the varnish shrieking as it dies.

Are there any baby grands where you couldn't turn the lyre into a temporary leg? Looks like a great method, but would hate to find out the hard way a Baldwin Baby Grand couldn't handle it.
@recordman5558 жыл бұрын
Negative. The difference between a pro piano mover and some hack, is the pro will always remove the pedal lyre, and would never use it as a fulcrum when rolling the grand onto the sled.
@garyross83418 жыл бұрын
Your wrong on that one, it only applies to a queen Anne, leg or a louie. There is also an adjustable support to attach from the Lyre to the rt front leg for support if needed. There are other tricks these movers don't know. Harlan Ross Pianos Berkshires 860 435 0004

im not a piano mover but im almost sure that tilting it over with all that pressure on the legs is not a very good idea,
@recordman5558 жыл бұрын
Believe it, or not, that's how it's done. The legs are made to take it.
@Avery_Piano7 жыл бұрын
Dylan Horatschki no they did it wrong, your first supposed to take off the first leg on the left then you tilt it, what they did was a bad move.
@Christbearer575 жыл бұрын
No, I believe they did remove leg #1, as all movers do. Not taking off the lid was wrong. And terrible filming.

Good job

I saw that too (cringing). Had to think maybe they got onto the sled with the hinge side over-hanging (?) Makes me think about adding road rails, just for these type movers.

@robant55786 жыл бұрын
Not the pro way to move it! Top should be removed, piano wrapped in blankets , then pedals removed, and only then one leg removed and tipped, guys here are immature
