How do you mow a lawn professionally? There are a lot of ways to string trim a yard, but there really is a route that has proven to work out the best for our yards most of the time.
You can use this pattern for your lawn care business and improve efficiency while string trimming or weed eating a lawn.
Always start in the front right corner of the yard and string trim the curb first.
Next, finish all concrete and driveway areas so the blower does not get held up waiting on you to finish those areas.
Even if you are a solo lawn care business owner, this path is extremely efficient and keeps you from having to back track across the yard or take extra steps across the lawn.

Johnathon, since all string trimmers spin counter clockwise, it seems that the direction you're suggesting results in the clippings flying towards and into (not away from) the driveway and plant beds. Hence, I would tend to do the property in reverse direction. Your thoughts and feedback is appreciated.

its faster that way. if you go the other way, it takes way longer and looks worse because the trimmer keeps trying to bounce back.

Most of my yards have nice sidewalks and boulevards. Takes me less time now. Thank you for helping me get home to my family quicker.

I love that you used a drawn out map. Although (because I live in south FL) every one of my clients has a sidewalk, each property thus far has been quite different. I'm basically just getting started, and this makes me realize that drawing out each client's property right now and making a plan will help greatly with efficiency! And, with experience, I'll know longer need to draw them in the future, of course. As always, your videos are clear. Thank you!

For me being solo I do the exact opposite. I like the way the trimmer cuts walking backwards and how it throws the grass away from the house sidewalks etc leaving less to cleanup and I don’t have to worry about the trimmer being done before the mower etc since I do each task on my own it saves more time having less to clean up!

I don't agree with this method. I like that you start on right side but we always walk right to left counter clockwise so you throw grass clippings into the turf area and not into landscape beds. A typical trimmer head rotates counterclockwise. If you walk left to right, you throw grass into mulch beds. Creates a mess to blow out. No bueno.

Some of our customers are perfectly ideal like your examples, but much of our mowing is rural customers, and we park in the driveways. Lots of big yards full of trees, pools, swing sets, etc that all needs to be trimmed around. I have a basic pattern at each property, and you are right...it's so much faster having a plan for trimming, vs just bouncing around all over the yard.

I’ve seen all sorts of methods. I like this pattern. Also what’s important is how you hold the trimmer and how you walk with it. Walk forward , trimmer head trimming the ground to your left(right handed), steady pace, maintain turf contact. Sounds like a no brainer, but you’d be surprised. Unless you are Michael Jackson, don’t walk backwards! 😎

Depending on whip rotation all i see is extra blowing of the garden beds not to mention on the road or driveway edge your trimming it backwards and not away from the driveway. Start from the left and finish on the right. I have a guy that does the way you explained and holy hell I can't stand the clipping in the beds and how utterly slow and inefficient it is. To each his own though.

If the guy on the blower needs on it that fast then he’s gonna be standing around either way on the first scenario unless he has something to do after blowing, but that’s always the final step... the trimming on this lawn looks like around 10 minutes and the blowing looks like about 2. The blower guy should have more to mow before grabbing the blower if you have this issue
@belikebraden
@belikebraden 4 жыл бұрын
And if you start on the left side just walk to the spot on your route that you would be at, for the first scenario the fence and for the second the side walk, this is helpful if it takes a few pulls on your trimmer to get it going... would actually be more efficient to start it while walking to the spot, rather than standing to start it. It’s good to be able to start from different spots because you won’t always be able to park in the same spot. And you want to start at the pickup and end at the pickup

My name is Chuck and I owned my long guy Incorporated in Illinois now it is changed to Noble Oaks Landscaping in Texas. whenever I taught a new person I always taught them less left left left left. you started the curb and you keep going left and then you go to the sidewalk and go left and you were the other side of the sidewalk and go left and then go up the driveway and around the side of the house in around the gate and around the patio and around the back side of the house in around the fence and then you come back around to exactly what you said you finish where you started and you always go left left left stopping to do anything in the middle of the yard whether it is a tree or bush or bed or playset or swing or pool or anything you stop when you come up to it and and then go back to where you left off on your edge. I've ran steel and echo I can't say about the rest of what is out there but as for the direction of the rotation for the trimmer it trims to the right so you want to go left to go against the grain and maybe I might be back worth on that but I'm sure you understand because if you trim with the direction of the trimmer as a rotates it will lay the grass down instead of standing it up so you can trim it.

I go the opposite direction usually. My weedeater string spins counterclockwise, and I feel like the best cut is at ~10-11 o'clock on the circumference of the string's travel, and this way the blades of grass shoot backwards into the yard which I'll go over later with the mower.

You are failing to address stick edger. Some folks use both a stick edger & a string edger. I use a stick edger (blade edger)starting front right of property. i knock out curb, driveway and sidewalks with stick edger. All edging gets done with stick edger. Return to truck. Get the string edger, i then follow your same path with string edger, mower & blower follow. One man crew with a part time guy 2 days. You should edit this instructional video to address all the tools used on a property. Most pros use 4 1. Stick edger 2. String edger 3. Mower 4. Blower. You are failing to discuss blade edging and failing to talk about string trimming the ceacks of sidwalks as you go.

i perseonally can do it much better than this and if you go right to left your gonna kick shit in the road which is not good for blowing sake because of the simple fact that if you know what your doing you shouldnt get any grass anywhere from trimming the curb.
