After this video I dont know what a travel is anymore, I prefer when they don't get called.

Agreed, people aren't watching the game to see the refs call travels. If it's not blatant, it shouldn't be called. That being said - players should still clean up their footwork and do things legally.

Thanks coach. Refs in Europe love calling these travels - we gotta do a better job teaching proper footwork to our players.

Can you make a finishing workout? Just compile some at talk to us, it's better than those people who demonstrate, because we understand you more and your teaching, a finishing work out plss, especially when someone is waiting in the paint

@@CoachFrikki I've just watched your videos for a few days and even though the finishing break down is just a single finish or just a one move it helped me, but a finishing work out would help me much more than one break down, thank man

Which is funny because those same guys get basic traveling violations wrong all the time. They definitely don't understand initiating contact rules. There will always be wanna be lockdown defenders at parks who only play defense with their upperbodies.

not a helpful comment lol. I think this video is outstanding and his categorization of issues is really valuable. He's showing pros making these mistakes, after all-- so it isn't like this is remedial content. It can be tricky.
@davidhall4401

@@martinhodell8465 Great response. A lot of high school and other lower level coaches never break down why the ref will whistle them for travel. Landing on two feet off the catch after hopping towards the ball is a great way to avoid traveling because you can choose which pivot foot you want to establish. Also using a negative step after this, which is basically jabbing the opposite foot backwards because it allows you to keep the established pivot foot still long enough for you to complete your dribble before moving it. That backwards jab with your left foot when your right foot is your pivot saves traveling violations if you catch the ball in a jump stop motion. This is definitely a tricky slope because people don't know what to look for that leads to travel and how to avoid it. Great video

Why is 4:25 a travel? His feet are cut off in the video, but it seems that his right foot is midair as he catches the ball. So as he plants his right foot, he should have 2 more steps. He shifts his left foot (step #1). Then he lifts his right foot as he starts dribbling, so he doesn't even take step #2. Am I misunderstanding the rules?
@CoachFrikki
@CoachFrikki 2 жыл бұрын
We can't say for sure with his feet out of the video. I think it was a travel but a very close call. If both feet are on the floor while the catch happens then it's a travel. If one foot is one the floor while the catch happens then it's a travel if he takes off w/ the dribble. If both feet are in the air while the catch happens it's legal, and you can drive out of it.

3:53 if you watch it in 0.25 speed, you'll see there is a travel. His hand was still touching the ball, but the pivot foot had released off the ground.

Are you talking about a) before starting your dribble or b) after starting your dribble? If a) the ball has gotta have left your hand before your pivot foot leaves the ground. If b) not a travel, you can't travel while dribbling.
